I have no idea what a pontiac 400 runs, but the 95 Cobra if it only has the mod you say, at best will be running low 14s.

I'd have to with the Cobra. However, you did say you beat a newer GT so if that's the case, you may have a chance. Did you ever find out if your motor was rebuilt ...if so was it a stock rebuild or were some modifications made?? The 400 Pontiac is a strong motor but if it's hampered by old age, emissions and stock parts then it won't run very strong. The Cobra is lighter and has more HP - stock vs. stock..especially if yours hasn't been rebuilt. Race him and let us know!

I think he might take you. But I don't know what rear gear you have. A lot of those TAs had pretty bad highway gears and where dogs off the line.

I think it will be close. But I have seen a lot more slightly modded mustangs of that era running low 14s than I have seen 78 TAs doing it. I think you may out weight him by 500 pounds.

As much as i dont wana say it, but hes gotcha man. Start playing around with your car. Someone did, so just complete what they were trying to do. that 400 can be snake killer... and put your car on a diet...

I think the 2nd gen. T/A's (late 70's) are around 3700 with the same year Camaros around 3600.

Yeah second gens are heavy as hell. mine weighs 3776 lbs. The T/A with some mods will destroy a lot of cars. Good luck with the race. You will need it.

His HP will win over your torque if the race is long enough.

well guys we raced and....

we raced last night and we raced to 100 mph and i didnt do to bad but i still lost.
well heres the story for u guys!
ok so we line up and we say 1st to 100 hits its brakes.
so we take off and we stay together till 50 mph nose to nose and then when i switch into 2nd he pulls a car length on me and then at about 85 i hit 3rd and he pulls another 2 car length on me and that show it stayed to about 100. all in all i guess losing by 3 car lengths at 100 isnt to bad is it really guys? all it has is an air intake form bbk i dont know if my friends cobra is chipped or not?
thanxs for the info i love third gen. org
and if anyone lives in utah and is looking to buy a third gen i got a 83 RECARO TRANS AM that my buddy is selling my old one if anyone wants to know anything about it let me know!

Jesse, good race. Losing by only 3 car lengths to a Cobra is very respectable for a stock 2nd gen. T/A. Now you can start modifying your car (intake, carb, headers, shift kit, gears etc). with these mods, you'll overcome that Cobra in no time!!

Yeah, some better heads, a new cam and some gears will definitly give you a lot more power. Intake couldn't hurt either. Nice run with the Cobra by the way. A little more work and you got him!
