Modified 1987 Formula 350 Vs. 2002 LS1 TA

Ok. We are wondering how this will turn out. A friend of mine has a 2002 Trans-AM. Her husband has a third gen 1987 Formula 350. The two of them argue over who would win a race. However they have never raced. And if they do it is unlikely that my friend is going to drive her Trans-AM in such a race. They have talked about me making the run in her place.

We are talking about doing this at the track sometime.

Specs on the cars.

2002 Pontiac Trans-AM Bone stock.
LS1
Automatic Transmission
3.42 Gears (I believe)

1987 Pontiac Formula 350 hard top W/700R4.

Stock 350C.I.D. w/Miniram and custom chip (not premade)
700R4 w/shift kit
Aluminum drive shaft froma 1LE car.
3.23 or 3.42 gears. (not sure which)
SLP Cold Air Intake w/K&N filter
SLP Catback exhuast and SLP headers. Dynomax Cat
24# SVO injectors
AFPR set at 45PSI
MSD Coil Cap and Rotor.

Both vehicles seem to be in top condition and have good tires.

Neither car has been to the track before. So we are unsure of the actual 1/4 times for these vehicles. What do you guys think? I've ridden in both vehicles and down low I'd have to give it to the LS1. Up top I would have to say the Formula. It felt faster to me. I've driven the LS1 but not the Formula myself.

Let me know what you guys think on this match.

Stock heads and cam for the Formula. The TA is not a Ram Air equipped car. Both have automatic transmissions.

yea.itll be close

IMO you took away the tpi's strong point buy getting a mini ram..

the only chance a tpi car would have to beat an ls1 would be off the line and maybe to half track, after that its by by ls1

youll both be even off the line. and hell still slightly pull on u on top

even though it may feel faster..the cam and heads are made for a tpi intake, not for hi rpm power...

itll be a good race but im givin this one to the LS1

Yeah I can see that. It makes sense. I'm still going to convince them to run and see what happens. That is if I can. I think it would be a good one.

I would race my car against either one of them. However I would get my @$$ handed to me bigtime. Not that it would stop me from trying.

Car: 87 Vette 85 TA 82 Z/28
Engine: 3 - 350's 388 400
Transmission: 2-700R4's 1 T56 Setup!
Axle/Gears: 2.59's 3.42's 3.73's
LS1 by 4 car lengths. if the formula had a good cam even with out heads i'd say it would be dead even but the LS1 car will run mid 13's all day long the formula maybe a 13.8-14 flat at best.

just my guess
