What will this combo run?
OK, building my motor on the stand, let me know what you think it will run and any help is neccesary and wanted here.
MOTOR:
'72 350 4 bolt main, stock pistons/crank/rods with 65k miles on motor
HEADS:
113 aluminum L98 heads, 2.02/1.6, ported to around 230 lift .400 and 240 at .500....not totally sure, havent gotten them in yet so no flow bench just yet. can take .600 lift
CAM:
CS-292H10 CompCams
Duration at .050 244/244
Adv. Duration 292/292
.501/.501 lift w/1.5 stock rockers
INDUCTION:
Edelbrock Pro-Flo EFI setup EDL-3500
EXHAUST:
Heddman LT's into 2 1/2in dual exhaust dumping before the rear axle
TRANSMISSON:
TH350w/2400 Stall recently rebuilt and has a shift kit
REAREND:
Currently 2.73's....3.42's going in soon.
What do you think? I have everything listed sitting in my garage except the heads and cam, both still on the table. Ill take any and all suggestions here. I have around $1000 to spend on a heads/cam package.
I already have the EFI system and would like to try it out and if I dont like it, then Ill go back to a carb setup with a RPM AirGap and Holley 750DP. However, considering I have the EFI system, its best to try it out first.
GOAL:
mid 12's in the 1/4
350+ HP 350+ torque to the wheels.
Any suggestions on heads and cam is greatly appreciated here. Ive considered AFR's but they are a little too much for me. Ive thought of these as well

200cc intake runners
OR
Dart Iron Eagle DRT-10321112
200CC intake runner
64CC angled plugs
I like the Darts, mainly because I have a good friend that is using a set of Iron Eagles in his 79 Z/28 and its a complete monster, even though its never been at a track or dyno'd once.
what do you all think? The cheaper I spend on heads the better, because it leaves more cash for gears, SFC's, tires, etc....the usual crap and gets everything going alot sooner than expected but Im willing to throw down the cash on some heads. thanks for all your help guys. Predictions are needed of course

I don't know a lot about heads and cams, but if you have your engine torn apart, I would suggest buying some flat top pistons. They make a world of difference.

It wont be torn apart at all. Just swapping the heads and cam not touching the bottom end except for a new oil pan and oil pump..

the cam sounds about right for ported L98 heads, but it could stand to be a little bigger if you go with either of the aftermarket heads. For heads i would go with the darts just for the simple fact i've seen them prove them selves time and time again and i know for a fact that they are high quality pieces. Dont get me wrong cause there is nothing wrong with world products i just like dart more.

i think when its all tuned right, it should hit 12's easily. that cam and pro flow should make closer to 400hp i would think. plenty for bottom 12's
remember the better flowing the heads are, the more power you can make....generally. dont skip out on heads cuz they can make or break the combo. i personally think that motor could use abit better head...
those vette heads have small chambers--58cc so your compression will be higher. hopefully nothing too high, i dont know whats all in that 72 shortblock. also the vette heads runners are smaller like 160-170cc or something like that.... so flow speed will be fast but that combo might like a bigger runner like 180-200

Well I actually want a 58cc chamber because I want a 9.5-10.1 or so CR. I dont want a 9.0 or less because I fear it will hurt me in the long run. I know the stock 882's are 76cc and provide like a 8.6 CR or something close...nothing I want.
Im seriously considering the Darts but Id rather spend a little less on the L98's and get it oging faster. My roommate says get the L98's but I think he fears my little RS with a 350 might get dangerously close to taking down his 383 IROC with those Darts.....never know. Any more suggestions, shoot.

i wasnt sure what teh stock compression ratio on 72 motors were so if its high 9's close to 10 with 58 cc then thats what you want.

needs more converter. go with at least 3000, possibly 3500. you have more than enough cfm and cam to run mid 12's, 350whp is enough to run into the 11's.

The L98's is a no go. So would you recommend 200cc Dart Iron Eagles? anybody?

yeah those iron eagles arent bad......look for the Platinum ones...they flow 10% better out of the box, and have alot of room for porting.

Anyone ever used Pro Topline? I was reading some good power output numbers from a mild smallblock build in Chevy High...any experience with their 1800cc or 200cc heads?
