Went into work today to pick up my pay check

and this white GTP that pulled me pretty hard last summer (4people in my car and he had a jump) came up to the light. i recognized the guy driving it.

anyway we pull off the light and he hits it, and gets a car jump before i do.

it stays that way with him about a car in front till about 80 when i start reeling him in and would have passed him at 95, but i shut down at 90.

it was a pretty quick GTP

 

GTPs are nothing to laugh at once they get a couple mods. Any idea what he has done?

 

no exhaust mods for sure...... the way he kept ahead me that long means i think it was pretty close to trapping 94-95mph. i trap nearly 97.

he might have had a pulley or some kind of chip... but i am not so sure. definately a quick car tho, i would guess he had a CAI of somesort

we pulled off the light slowly, and then he punched it first to get a car headstart.

then i hit it......and it stayed that way until about 80 when i started gaining back...

by 90, i was nearly on his door.... but in order to pass him, i would have missed my exit... so i shut down and he kept going also taking the same exit

you dont have to pass the car to beat it.......its whoever is pulling by the end.

I agree with Traxxion this is not a win. Another thing about street racing if your behind until you hit 90 or so, you lost. Fact is most people in a street race will let off by this time and since there is no designated finish line you have no idea when he lets up. It makes me think of the fly bys after you blew someone out, they come flying by at 100 and think they beat you because there finally in front.

 

I ran a mustang a couple weeks ago he was barely ahead of me prolly a 1/4 car length almost the whole run, he pulled a little further ahead then i started to real him in until i was almost even at about 90mph or so but i then let up because traffic was coming head on in my lane(country road) so i lost. It was straight up, fair is fair. I excepted this as a loss, it makes no difference who is pulling in the end its who is up front.

HE got the first move and pulled a car length AHEAD of me BEFORE i went after him!

and that is all the lead he ever gained......i slowly took it back and at 80ish i was closing.

if we both would have hit it at the same time, i GUARANTEE that i would have pulled ahead and stayed there with me SLOWLY creeping away from him

its a win.....he was on it all the way and never let off. i was pulling him back and the ONLY reason i let off without passing him was that i was going to miss my exit

is that so hard to understand???

 

I am not trying to say you couldnt have beat him, but the fact remains you didnt get up front there for you didnt win. Now had you got ahead or even ran again and ended up out front you would have the kill, but since he initiated a race and you participated and ended up behind i give the gtp the kill, sorry but you lost that round fair or not.

 

I am pretty sure, if he was so inclined, he would be on the GTP sight saying how he smoked an IROC. The way I see it your interpreting what happened in your view, even though your view was of tail lights somehow you won a race.

I just don't get why this would be considered a kill because you were gaining on him at some point but never passed him because you chose not to. Look I am on your side I want the third gen to win, but your stretching reality here a little to say that you took him down.

 

And I suppose you knew that he was wide open the entire run? Not waiting for you to catch up b/c he felt bad beating you w/ a 6 banger grocery getter? The guys above me were being polite. YOU LOST. End of story. Tuck your tail and go home, or line up w/ him again for some money. When you take his money, that's a kill.

THERE is no point in continueing on with the inevitable.....i would have pulled up past 90. i was gaining just alittle bit at a time the whole race. sorry guys.

IT was VERY obvious he was on it. cuz soon as i let off, HE braked for the exit like i did. HE was going to run me beyond the exit more than likely

sorry i left out these details but i figured you guys would understand the situation abit better. i thought wrong.......you guys see the video of the 600 EVO vs VIPER? the viper gets a car jump and shuts down as the EVO is pulling back... the guys celebrate a victory when in fact it was NOT

i hear your view but if i am pulling him, does that mean i have to pass a guy to call it a win? why risk going faster and breaking down the motor just to go ahead of the guy when it was going to happen anyway.

Come on guys give the kid a break. Do you understand what hes saying? He would of beaten him easily, but he had to shut down to take an EXIT. The kid didnt want to spend an extra 50 cents at the TOLL Plus it wasnt a FAIR race to start with. Ive driven a 1999 Buick Riviera 3.8 Supercharge 240hp 280lb tq. Decently quick ride. Not L98 quick tho, esp with Mr. Orrs Mods

lol you guys are sorta right that i didnt quite pull ahead so i shouldnt really call it a win, but i know 100% that I would have so i call it a win. i know if it was a even start, i would have won for sure

anyway, i been looking for GTP forums and found a few sites but nothing about racing me........which kinda sucks, i think he would call it a win for him but if he saw me creepin on him, he would agree with me.

i'll keep alook out for him.. i wont make it look skeptical again..........

 

I like how everyone is concentrating on how he "lost" because of this and that. But no one mentions how the GTP jumped early. I'm sure if he would have shown some kind of sign he wanted to race, he would have never gotten that jump.

If he got the jump, and you were pulling on him at 90 with TPI, there is no question you can beat him. Good race!

 

Technically, it wasn't a race at all. Just like 95% of all the posts in the forum. It's sad.


You're right. I do street race. A lot. We find an open road, set up a start and finish line, agree on a money amount and race. Some one goes home a winner. If you're close to the MD boarder I could show you some REAL street racing. Not just f'n around on a public road.

 

i am about 30 minutes from maryland border and i would love to see it. i dont race for money cuz frankly i think thats kinda stupid. i cant afford to lose money and since i am not fast, its pointless to put money on the line. messing around in public is fun for me and thats all i need.

 

Don't go getting a 12 point ticket though. I wouldn't even bother going if you're not planning on racing.

 

i got 5 points on my license now, so i really really cant afford to mess up anything. i wouldnt mind seeing it but dont wanna race in a unknown place. i dont race much as it is, just messing around when the oppurtunity arrives, and its only in the safest of conditions, where no traffic and a closed section of road where no cops can be on. all my runs occur on the same roads, same section of the road. i keep cruising thru the area and sometimes i catch a car to mess with

 

You will get a 12 point ticket for watching, well at least in my state you will. You don't even have to have a car there.

 

Don't knock GTP's my best friend has one before he even did any upgrades he was killing 2000 model GTs and made my stock 305TPI cry!!

Since then he added a 3 inch pully and CAI thats it!
He took it to the track and beat a 95 351 Cleveland Saleen fair right off the line. That was his only win with the saleen but he did it! All the other times they race the saleen only beat him by .15 sec.

Every race with what ever car he was racing he would leap out 1 1/2 cars easily. Those are easy 13 sec cars. So honestly he could possibly beat you from light to light especially if you got stock gears!

haha yeah it was funny.....but no joke tho, the GTP is a impressive car...who knows what he had done, but he ran hard. my car pulls nicely with stock 2.77 gears. cant wait till 3.27's go in

 

so by that rationale... If Dale Earnhardt Jr. is behind in a race.. and rusty wallace is in front of him... and Dale is gaining fast,.. But rusty crosses the finish line 1st.... does that mean Dale won??




or what if is drag racing.. and you're behind.. the other guy shuts it down 100 feet from the end.. you start to "pull".. but he crosses 1st... does this mean you won too??

in street racing there is no set finish line.. you can pull all you want to in teh pepsi 500, but once that last lap is up.... and your not in front, you lose...

no finish line means no rules, and whenever i shut down, i made it over.i was in control. is that to hard to understand for you?

here let me out line it for you and others as a quick little guide.
He jumped a car length or more before i did, and i stayed even with him till 80ish and started to pull back. i slowly crept back the whole time. if it was a dead even three honk start, I win no question about it. GTP was quick i give him that, but not fast enough for me.

its like me racing a c6 vette, if he spins and i beat him to 30mph and i shut down, does that give me a clear victory? sorta but we all know he will get me as soon as he hooks up. and that wont take long. you cant call that a victory and sleep at night cuz you know he would have kicked your ***.......Any real car guy knows that and respects that

THIS was the first race where i shut down early because i didnt want to miss my exit and you Azzhats have to twist things around to get a rise out of me or something. well you succeeded. you act like i am some stupid import racer when in fact i am one of the biggest car enthusiasts you will know. i know racing and what goes on. i know who wins and who loses and in this case, i was clearly pulling and could have passed him.. RE-READ the posts and you will see where i am coming from. i agree with you i know i could have passed him. it not really a kill, its a probable one and that to me makes it a win for me. again, if i wanted it, it would have happened. i dont see why everyone is argueing over it saying that its not. it was in my control, its not like we ran out of road or hit traffic, i shut it down. if it was alack of room, i would admit it wasnt a win but i have the faster car

My buddy and I catch a light today. He has a heavily modifed GTP. He is faster, but I keep telling him i'll rip him out of the hole and he's going to be playing catch up. Light turns green and what do I do? Spin to freakin 5500 rpm He spun bad too, but not as bad, couldn't even get him out of the hole. Time to upgrade the rear tires...

I use to get such good traction before I did the headers/full exhaust/injectors
