Had to shut down a couple ThirdGens....

Ok, lets go back to last Friday morning the 17th. I got off work (work 3rd shift) and headed out to pick up my 3.73 gears and BFG COmp T/A's from a guy on the local Mustang board. We chat for a few and I admire...well drool over his 88 Notch with stock bottom end and a stalled AOD that runs 7.7's with ease on E/T Streets. After leaving there I head over to the shop where i had previously dropped my Mustang off. drop my gears off there so he can install them for me in time for the track that evening. I go get my BFG's mounted on my 5 stars (yay!) and come back to pick it up. The car is running some Pep Boys cheapies....235/60R15 on the 10 holes. I take mt test drive before paying and I go from a dig and burn them through 3rd gear I go form a 20MPH or so roll and burn them up and bark the hell out of 2nd and 3rd easily...so yeah the BFG's were a good choice lol. Pay the shop and run home to mount my 5 stars. Do so and head to the track. Tech easily and get in the Staging lanes and chat with my buddy John (has a 97 T-bird 4.6L super super clean a wine color with 03 Cobras, super beefed tranny and a Modular Depot tune) and another buddy who has a '01 Saleen.

We are all together in the lanes with our hoods popped and chatting when I notcie this guy walk up and looking over my car i recognize him form last year, mid 20s really cool guy. He has an 89 Firebird with a 350TBI, shorties into ypipe into some loud *** muffler out back with huge tips, no AC or smog, and "welded spider gears". Its a T-5 car with a Centerforce clutch. He's looknig my car over and then comes up to me. "What ya running?"

"Oh nothing yet, just got here. wheres that Firebird at man?"

"Eh its at home, just watchin tonight. Arent those tires rather big on your car?"

"Nah, just fine. I hope those 275's do hook though, Ill need them with my gears."

"Gears? What did you go with?"

"3.73's. Theres a total differance now, Im hoping for some solid low 9's this evening."

"Doubtful but then again you cant expect performance from that tired old thing."

"Well if its so tired how bout you bring that 'Bird up here and we'll run 'em."

He smiles, "Sure, ill do that. Be ready though man, shes packing some heat." He leaves and I go back to talking. My buddy Bryon tells me he saw him run a few weeks back and is still running 9.7's so I shouldnt have too many issues. I run a few times within that 2.5 hours and kick it off with some 9.3's, then 9.2's then 9.1's and finally secure a 9.09@75.99MPH....I dont powershift, rear shocks are blown and my clutch is getting close to going bye-bye so yeah it wasnt shabby.

Wednesday rolls around and I figure hell, Ill go out. Its a scorcher too and my car is running exceptionally hot today. I get on the Expressway and am cruising listening to some 3 Doors Down. I look in my rearview mirror and see this white T-top ThirdGen behind me coming up hard. He hops into the left lane and I look it over.....T-tops out, 91-92 Z28, really nice car. I hear him downshift and i smile...almost positive its a 305. Hekeeps edging me on and finally he honks...1,2,3 and BAM hes off. I downshift into 3rd and am around 3800RPM....punch it and walk past him pretty good as 4th comes too fast and keep going ahead...I let out and shift into 5th....look over at him and say, "What was that for???"

"Had to make sure you were actually a 5.0" My car does have 5.0 emblems and Ive never seen a L4/V6 car pose

I get there a half hour after the track opens, 6:30pm. Tech and then stage up. bunch of guys from my local Mustang board are there and one is doing his usual videotaping...later on in the week he makes sweet music videos to some good rock song or something, hes got skills indeed. Anyways I stage up and knock down a pathetic 9.33 but my car is running super hot, but not anything like overheating.....which im kinda mad about so i know no new bests tonight. I come back aorund and pop my hood and wait....some guy had a spill on the track so it'd be a few minutes. then i see the 'Bird roll in. First thing i notice is some new, fat E/T Streets out back He pops his hood and he did a complete tune up from coil to wires to cap.....His elec. fan is going to keep her cool. About that time they tell us to "suit up". I hop in and wait till the line progresses before starting, attempting to keep it was cool as possible. I get up and he yells over "Damn thought you were gonna chicken out on me!"

"Nah, remember you're theo ne driving the FireChicken!"

We get up to the Boxes and I rolls past the burnout box because theres no need for water on my DR's. He however hits the burnout box and proceeds to do a John Force burnout leaving smoke everywhere and of ocurse people cheer. I dump the clutch and lock my brakes up and do it for about 5 seconds with smokes rolling off my DR's as I roll up to the line...looks cool indeed! I pre stage and then stage as he does the same. I bring my RPM's up to about 4000RPM and then...

yellow, yellow, yell....BAM, I punch it and launch and hook hard but my rear squats pretty badly (shocks). I get him out of the hole and 2nd comes pretty fast. BAM, shift to second and the ponies keep on roaring through that little 5-0 as I slam into 3rd gear and look over, and hes behind me. Cross the traps and proceed to the return lane. I get my slip and heres how it went......

He didnt pick up a thing!!! I cut a good light and you can see where my 60ft sucks butt with Drag Radials and a 3.73 geared car....ugh. We got back in the lanes and he gets ou and is scratching his head. I pop my hood and walk over, pat him on the shoulder and say "Maybe one day you'll see no matter how tired they seem, 5-0's are always baddass." I then tell him good race and wlak off to chat with my Stang buddies...hopefully itll be on video...but doubtful, i dont think he was in the stand when I ran him...oh well.

He has an 89 Firebird with a 350TBI

Did you mean TPI or did he put a 350 in a TBI car? Because I'm pretty sure GM didn't make any 350TBI camaros that year.

Plan on doing any engine mods? My friend has a 92 5.0 with 3.73 gears and subframes. Once he added Gt40 heads and a nice Cam he was running 8.6 ETs. Those are really cheap parts you should get them.

Good Kill TOO!

BUT IF YOU EVER BRING YOUR A$$ TO NC I WILL OWN YOU!!!! LOL

He dorpped the 350 motor in....or the previous owner did. I still believe its a 305TBI because back before the exhaust, welded spider gears and clutch he was running 10.5's lsower than my car. next week he showed up with full exhaust, spider gears, clutch.

As for owning me, lol, never said it was the fastest but hell, I might have to run ya one day...that is with a nice 150 shot in the system

What does low 9's in the 1/8th make out to in the quarter again? It's like mid 14's right?

Oh yeah, good kill and great story, it was very nicely written.

a 9.2 is like a 14.3 or so....9.4's are 14.5's-14.7's...my 9.09 should come to around a 14.1 which is pretty crappy considering my gear upgrade.

Yeah, your story made me curious, and I went and dug out my old time slips from when my car was still running. This just goes to show how much top end my car had (and what a crappy driver I was)

I've got a bunch of timeslips where my 1/8th is a 9.471 @ 81.90, but then my 1/4th is a 14.151@106.

My best time was 1/8th 9.226 @ 82.68, then 1/4th 13.890 @ 106.62. lol

At least your times are like out of the book time because you can launch. Again, nice runs.

Actually I cant launch my 60 fts on Drag Radials are 2.0's with a very very occasional 1.95....I need new rear shocks but part of my problem is I cant drive...I dont powershift and a few folks say thats holding me back...

I ran a H22 swapped CRX that ran 9.4's/9.'3s from a orll the other day and he completely smoked me hard....He said his best ET was a 13.88 so yeah it seems the Hondas dont do normally with their ET's.....When i hit 3rd and saw him start walking away I was like

My best 60' ever was a 2.3, that's why my times are so off. I never really believed in "power shifting" but the one time I really let loose was when I ran my 13.8. Although, other times I didn't drive like that, and got a 14.0 on the brakes.

Ok, we get it. 5.0's are badass. 5.0's can be modded cheaper. 5.0's are lighter. 5.0's have a larger aftermarket. 5.0's have their own racing classes. 5.0's respond better to mods. 5.0's are never 305 posing rust bucket hillbillymobiles. 5.0's are so cool, Vanilla Ice drove one in his music video.

Did I miss any?

I care because it seems most TANG owners love to 'stomp' on thirdgens and post it in their faces, and constantly remind them of their car's shortcomings. Every second post is like that. I'm just saying "WE GET IT!"

Thirdgen owners can be dicks STU? Yeah, when provoked.

It isn't just in the kill stories. Everytime the issue of mustangs is brought up. here come the TANG boys to remind us how inferior we are.

12's with gears and exhaust? Bogus. But I have to read about it EVERY FRIGGIN TIME!

Already did those.

But here's some of my kill stories. Some random **** in his stock 5.0 is driving on main street in Hamilton. Comes up beside me, and asks if I wanna run. I ask if he's stock, he says just exhaust, but it'll still beat my fbod.

Needless to say, I wasted him.

Cayuga dragway, my friend in his 5.0 LX wanted to run me because everyone tells him he should run 13s.

Needless to say, I wasted him.

A 16 to 18 year punk kid tried to pass me on the highway. I downshifted, and put another 11 lengths between us.

Needless to say, I wasted him.

Now I'm going to post these on mustang.net or whatever. Yeehaw.

Why did you speed off just because someone tried to pass you? I hate *******s like that who have a chip on their sholder. I just want to get where I'm going, I don't care what you are doing in your car.

I do own a ThirdGen you know

Seriously, I post them because it involved a ThirdGen. Theres very few ThirdGens around here worth a crap...most are POS 305's or some idiot thinking "this motors got ported 882's and are better than those Darts you got" crap...my roommate has a 87 IROC-Z with a 383 stroker, t-56, LT's, and Vortecs and he stomps the living **** out of me....he did it tonight from a 30MPH roll took me by about 4 cars or so before we let out....I know my car isnt super fast but I like posting my kill stories up here because i like this site...one day Ill post some kills from my ThirdGen and then everyone will be happy again.

As soon as I get out of school (next week) and get a real job I'll be making another fast car, and it's likely to be a Miata or something. I'm going to actively hunt Thirdgens, just so I can post the stories here (since there is no All Kills forum). Hope he calms down by then.

Please dont do a Miata...they are comparable on the gay scale as a Del Slow....do something that has some sort of style or something halfway sleeperish and doesnt look like a can of tuna.

Ignorance is bliss, Mustang owners post to enlighten the less fortunate and blind third gens owners of whats out there. You dont like it, get out of the post, end of story. The Mustang owner here (also a thirdgen owner) posted kills on thirdgens, and yes thirdgens lose and there is just as much a right to post a kill on a thirdgen as thereis a thirdgen killing another car. It isnt his fault the thirdgens couldnt hold their own...

Your list looks about right, so now you know the truth, leave it be. A Mustang owner did NOT start that post, they merely posted their opinions, just as the thirdgen owners did. There were no fights and no hostility, yet you dragged something over here, way to be mature and represent the thirdgen owners everywhere.

Grow up and pull the stick out of your... if you want to live in a world where the thirdgen can never lose, and it is the best car in the world, so be it, but DONT expect everyone else to.

And for the record, I am in no way ragging on thirdgens, as I never have, merely stating how I feel as everyone else is entitlted to on an open forum!

Exactly! That's what everyone thinks, and I love it! I welcome comments like that in fact. Everyone can think that Miatas are as gay as they want, but once they realize what near 50/50 weight distrobution and 400hp to the rear wheels in a car that weighs like 2,300 pounds will do, all they'll have to say is, "Well, at least my car looks better." Which won't be true. lol

How do you plan on putting 400 HP to the wheels in that tiny car? That's a lot of power to make, even with forced induction of some sort. Good luck with that.

Of course, I'll assume you weren't just joking or exagerating. If so, then to me.

I won't deny the 'right' to post this crap, but it's ALL I see from you people. Wow, big surprise 25th had to put in his two cents. Tell me, what was the purpose of the SUV vs camaro post video? I wonder.

My list is right on? Well, sarcasm is a little hard to detect on the internet. Reality: Every bone stock stang I ever see running here is low 15's. Gear and exhaust usually puts the ones i see at maybe mid 14's. Don't give me inflated magazine articles, don't give me "my daddy's stang runs 13's stock", don't give me that BS.

Ignorance is bliss. Give me a break. I know some stangs are faster than fbods, and vise versa. But I don't need biased stang lovers constantly shoving their superiority in my face.

Manic Z lets be real here for every 10 post of thridgens beating someone you get one or two post of a mustang or some other car beating them also. Its no big deal, I personally like to see what other cars can do with mods added.

Learn from what other cars can do and use that info against them. Fact is it doesn't matter what car you have if you got the money to put into it you can make any car fast, chevy carmaros aren't exactlly the best car to start with nowadays!

If Stu can make a make a 400 hp Miata thats a car I'd love to own just so I could spank a Corvette or Saleen owner.

A guy I work with has a 95 R/T Neon he had it built by some engine builder that set a world record one year for the fastest all motor front wheel drive car. When he finally got the car finished he drove it to work I swear that thing sounded like a motorcycle with exhaust. He had almost 300 at the wheels and was killing Cobras! He let me ride in it with him I almost pee'ed myself!

If you don't have the money to fix your car up to run fast well you really can't call your Z a MANIC can you? Don't worry I know your day will come just don't be a cry baby.

Sarcasm or not, your post was pretty accurate...

As far as the Mustangs in your area, whose word should we take on what they run, yours someone biased against them, who has no credability at all when it comes to what they can and should do, or me, the person who has owned 3, family has owned 8, I have raced with Mustangs for the past 4 years, and have wrenched on at least 50 of them. This is why Mustang owners post here and their knowledge is valued. I know what they will run, I dont care what magazine cars do, I care what real cars do and those are the cars I race with all the time, or cars I have owned!

I posted the video because it was a thirdgen racing video, which is what belongs in this forum. I cant make the thirdgen win the race I can only give a link to the video, if you dont like the outcome then go out and find or make your own video of you beating an SUV.

If you dont like my 2 cents, Im sorry your going to have to read it on any post pertaining to my strong point (Mustangs) and of course I am going to defend them, if I dont it will be 14 replys saying, "go thirdgen".

Of course, I'll assume you weren't just joking or exagerating. If so, then to me.
If I can do almost 300 to the wheels in my Integra on a stock motor with 150,000 and only a 2.5" exhaust, I'm sure 400 to the wheels on a built Miata would be no problem. Either way, even if it's say only 325RWHP, it'll still be way faster than my Integra was, and that car was a tad quicker than a stock C5 at this alititude.

On a side note, a 5.0 in a Miata would be mighty fun as well.

From what I understand, a GM 3.4L 60* V6 is an easy as hell swap into a Miata. They have a HUGE engine bay. Can fit some V8s too wihtout much work if I remember right. I was reading a site about a 3.4 swap into one to get info for my 3.4 swap into an '80s nova

for some reason it seems that the VAST majority of thirdgen owners have weak 305 cars or tired L98s that are still in the 15's. then comes along all kinds of cars that beat them in races and they assume they suck. i hate that. LOL

anyway, nice runs. sounds like you had fun.

I've only encountered two third gens that I can think of, and both were when my car was turboed. The first one was a mid to high 13 second car (from what I can tell) that I pulled on. I really wanted to see what he had because he had a big block hood on his car. The other one was like a stock IROC that I would have walked all over, had I not nearly side swiped us both into the guard rail. lol.

Thats just it, there is noone putting Fbodies down, just posting info and races with other cars involved.

Now that your cars a stang killer, go out there, race and post it on here. I dont mind reading kills on either end, as I dont street race and would have nothing to prove to anyone!
