2.8 vs 01 Eclispe GS

Ok, I want to know if there is anyway I can beat my friend's eclipse(FWD) with my ****ty 2.8L. Both are 5spds and pretty much stock. I have an aftermarket muffler, got rid of the smog pump, and will be gutting the cat out soon too. Thats pretty much it. Just would like to have an idea how bad its gonna be.

if its a 4 cyl, it would be a decent race. If its a 3.0 v6 with a 5 speed, they can do some damage

well if this help any. 5 years ago i had a 1987 firebird with a 2.8 and me and my friend would race every week. he had a 4 cyl mx-3 it was very light compared to my car. every race we did we would be neck and neck. oh i forgot to ask. are you bigger than he his because the less you are the faster you will go. if he is a fata$$ you have a good chance. GOOD LUCK. next time buy a third gen with a 350tpi and you will be fine. i know i have no problem with these little **** banging stupid cars.

Haha, unfortunatly he has the weight advantage on me, hes a little skinny kid, maybe 145, Im around 180. Dont worry, Ill have the money for a V-8 the next time I buy a car (hopefully). I just got done replacing the water pump on my car, so it should happen soon.

i was at dyno day yesterday and there was an eclipse gs-t there. it was stock besides the exhaust and a blow-off valve and dynoed 219 hp! i was shocked! that is around what my firebird runs! (for now anyways!) i know you r just racing a gs but you still better watch out. my friend has a 2.8 camaro and outran an 95 civic with a few mods on it!

Like the other guy said, an LO3 will destroy a GS, they are probably almost a full second slower than an LO3. I have a 2.8 V6 in my '89 Chevy Celebrity, and even that can run with a GS. I think you'll edge him out.

Haha... unless you have some mods, I don't think your 305 is putting down anywhere near 220HP. I'm not trying to talk ****, but I really hate it when people overestimate their engine's power. Feel free to correct me if you do have some mods that I don't know about though.

I've driven one of those eclipses before. I floored it and was stunned that the car wasn't moving. I was actually surprised at it's lack of power. It just doesn't.. move.. not even out of it's own way.

Alright, here's the catch: The figure in the Tech Section of the site is flywheel horsepower. It's not how much it's putting to the ground. Dynos test rear wheel HP, the amount of power the car is actually putting at the tires.

If your car is stock, you're probably putting somewhere around 160-180 HP to the rear wheels. That would put the Eclipse about 30 HP over you in the best case scenario.

But the v6 eclipse's still suck. and the gs's are slow about just as slow as your 2.8lt.

p.s. just an aftermarket muffler doesn't count as a mod
