SRT-4 vs 89 IROC-Z
Its an 89 IROC-Z with an LB9 and a small cam, larger injectors,TB Bypass, Cutout boxes, Full 3 inch exhuast, 700R w/shiftkit, 3.23 gears. I wanna know what you thin they both run in the quarter, who will win, looking for guess estimated times? Thanks. This is my new camaro so im not sure what it runs, all i know is that its a quick car. So whats see what you guys think.

a stocker srt-4 should be good for mid to low 14's. A stage one should be good for mid 13's, stage 2 are good for high 12's, stage 3 are hella fast. I raceds a stage 2 ( minus downpipe) from a dead stop and he was really quick. He was next to me till the end of second gear, by the end of 3rd he was 4-5 car lengths back. I finish my 1/4 mile in the middle of third gear.

SRT4's at my track are low 14's, some crackin high 13's. trappin like 95-99. not sure if any are modded. still pretty quick cars.
what cam u got in that Lb9? small cam to me means your not gonna win. from a dig is your best bet.. but i think you'll get pulled slightly

if that's all you got, you'll get spanked from a dig or a roll.
They typically run low 14s here at sealevel.

Hook and you'll get him outta the hole. But after 60 feet you'll be seeing his rear lamps.

I had an 87 GTA. L98, slp headers, slp y pipe, high flow cat, slp catback (two out the left), slp air foil, a chip, slp cold air intake, a shift kit and maybe a few other things like TB bypass.
I got walked by an srt-4! this was at Pittsburg raceway park! I kept up in first and half of second gear. granted my car had 145K and no rebuild, but still, its gonna be hard for you to keep up.
*edit*
I went 14.5 and the SRT-4 went 13.99

Stock 87-89 L98 cars ARE rated as mid 14 second cars. Speaking from past experience I think they are more like high 14 second cars from the factory. The 90-92 speed density cars are a bit quicker. They make a little bit more power and also have lower gearing.

I have an SRT-4 as a daily driver and know these cars very well. The '03 SRT-4 is rated at 215HP, it has smaller injectors then the 04-05, and it has Michellin (Sp?) Sport tires stock, and is good for at least 14.1 in the quarter. The 04 up SRT's are rated at 230HP, and come with BFG KDWs, which are nearly like cheater slicks. The 04-05 is good for at least 13.9 with decent driver on the stock tires. Also, those HP numbers are stated as factory flywheel HP, but in reality those are what they actually put down to the front wheels, as proven on many occasions on the dyno. The 2003's also do not have LSD (basically posi for FWD cars), so only one wheel turns and obviously makes it harder for them to get traction. The 04 and up come with LSD stock, and if the driver knows the car well, these things chirp when launched, grab immediately and take off. Trust me, I know.
Also, the only 3rd gen I've messed with in my SRT-4 was a 305TPI / auto IROC. I don't know what exactly was done to it, but it was just one of those cars you could tell was a bit more than stock. It chirped into 2nd just when it was driving normally, and the muffler was about the size of a coffee can, as if it were just a resonator. We went at it on the freeway for a while, and he was a good 2-3 car lenghts back at least.
I couldn't tell you too much about your own car, but all I can say is, if you race, rolling or from a dig, make sure it's just for fun and no cash.

Overall I am much more impressed with the 2.5RS than I am with the SRT-4, much better looking car, a more well-built car, and a very well handling car, granted the subaru is a 2005 model, it is a superior car in my opinion.
And if your'e going to turbo a car, I think the 2.5RS would be a perfect candidate. Sorry for being off topic.

I'm torn between having just one nice daily driver till I can afford an even cooler car, or having a project Miata. I can get a 94-96 Miata with 50,000 miles for right around $6,000, but I've got horrible budgeting skills and have zero money saved. If I can get a loan to buy the car I'd be okay, but the turbo kit would be almost just as much (although it's worth it for what it comes with).
Plus, with three other roommates and only a two car garage, I'm going to just have this car sitting around all the time. It's too small and RWD to have as my only car as well. I still like the idea of 240 rwhp on a 2,000 lbs car on a totally stock motor. Then rebuilding the motor with forged internals for more boost later, but I have to seriously think about it on an economic scale. I wouldn't really be able to take anyone with me since it's only a two seater. I tend to be fickle with what I want to do about cars, but I'll figure something out.

Stu, could you get a low milage '05 STI for around the same as the '06 WRX?
No. Someone on my board keep offering '06 WRX's for right around $20,000 (msrp starts at $22,999) and '04-05' STi's with 20,000-30,000 miles are still going for around $26,000 I think.
Although, on a side note, I did used to sell used cars and know that average mark up was around $7,000. H1 Hummers were around $17,000.
If I could afford to lease an '06 STi I would. I only make $36,000 though. I think it'll be at least 9 months to a year before I can make my first move up to a higher salary.
