2001 Mustang question??

Hey mustang boys, what would a 2001 GT run in the quarter with Gears, full exhaust and an intake?? I raced a guy last night that came alot closer than I would have thought he should!! We went a couple of times, and he stayed close. I know for a fact that my car is very capable of mid - high 12's, I think buddy was lying to me?lol

I know guys around here can run 13.8's stock in these all day. I am really wondering what the gears do for them.

Depends on the set up. A bullitt intake, TB, CAI (could mean this when you say intake), Long tubes, off road X and dumps (could mean this when you say full exhaust) and 4.30s would be an EASY mid to low 13 second car on street tires. Friends of mine (two actually) had these same mods, coupled with a little weight reduction and suspension and went 12.3s all day long on a tire.

If he went 13.8 stock, judging by you saying stockers are doing that, figure mid 13s with ease and that would stick him right behind you!

from what ive seen at the track and on mustang forums, your average driver (teenage punk with shades and backwards hat?) on a street tire won't do better than mid to upper 13s with those mods.

From what I've seen locally, and researched on the net (mustangforums.com), it's considered quite good luck/skill to get a FULL bolt on 4.6 SOHC car into the 12s. I'm sure there are people that get good times with them, but I've never lost to one myself that had less than a supercharger.

The 4.6 DOHC motor is another matter however.

Head over to the modular forums and look for a guy named Automatic Weapon, and a guy named Starkie. Both back a few years ago were the ones running those times. One has cams I believe and is low 12s, and the other similar mods, maybe more and is in the 11s.

Any weight reduction done to the cars? I see alot of them dynoing around 290 rwhp with full bolt ons, dyno tune and stage 1 cams, at stock weight that's good at best for high 12s with the average driver on a tire. What suspension work was done to those cars? I'm betting the suspension and chassis prep was where they found their times.

With your mods you should be shooting for low 12's I know your combination can do it. Unless your just trying to save your rear. You should be putting down 330hp at the wheels easy in a setup thirdgen thats mid to low 12s.

Both had weight reduction (not sure, but a decent amount) and both were good drivers. AW was a better driver than Starkie and had the best time in Starkies car, but both were in the 12.3-12.4 range...

Remember, I dont hang out with bad drivers. If Im racing with them, they slam gears and can drive the cars. If I claim a taimeslip its from a good driver in good conditions.

There was a Bullitt locally with comparable mods, some weight reduction and slicks that ran 12.8's @ 105. Pick up an issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and you'll see those times aren't out of the ordinary. Gears are a huge mod!

SBF's like revs. 281 cubic inches need to rev quite a bit to make some power, and the quicker they get to 6500 rpm, the happier they are. Mustangs with a CAI, 4.30s and sticky tires can run low 13s all day long

Perfect example is right here....

My friend 2004 GT. C&L CAI, SCT tuned, 4.10 gears, aluminum DS, 31 spline axles, shortie headers, offroad x-pipe and Borla catback and it put down 248 RWHP and runs CONSISTANT 8.5's in the 1/8th on ET Streets (fat/skinnies) with him in it and driving the **** out of it. It weighs in at 3550 with him in it. I took it out last Wednesday for some passes. N/A, my first pass I went an 8.80 granny shifting and spinning past the 60. My 2nd itme out, I decided a burnout was need and got a smokeyo ne in the box. Rolled out, launched at 3700 RPM and powershifted my way to a 8.47@80MPH.

Last pass I opened the bottle, flashed the SCT Nitrous tune, and did a LONG 2nd gear burnout with the ET streets at 12PSI hot. Launched softer, DIDNT POWERSHIFT, AND let out about 75 feet from the traps and ran an 8.07@88MPH.

Let me tell you. Done right AND driven right, a 2 valve is a rowdy little street machine.

As for 4 valves.....Lets say Ive watched Both 96-98 Cobras run 8.3's-8.9's BONE STOCK....usually 8.3's with stickies. No joke. Cams, full exhaust, 4.30's/4.56's, fat/skinnies w/stickies, and driving makes them a DEEP 7's car....and we havent even touched Terminator Cobras yet!

That's a perfect example of why I don't like the 4.6L SOHC motor. An LT1 would do that bone stock with some nitto 555rs. An LS1 would do it bone stock with a good driver on street tires.
