01 gt vs my 88 irocz

Okay so this is the deal. Last time i raced him, I lost by a car. My tranny was at the time thought to be baked, but i now have brought it back to life. I also swapped out my tpi to hsr. I will have taken out my 2 12" subs and the box too when i re race him. My question is...... I have a cutout right at the back of my rear axle. You think it would be a bit of a boost to have it open rather than closed? I just put the hsr in and havent been able to really feel any diff. Which i shouldnt i guess. Maybe a 1/10 off my 1/4 times.

I think im just lookin for some theoretical ideas on what is gonna happen.
Should i go cutout open first time and at least make him deaf when i pass him?

Well with the mods you seem to have I do not see why you cant beat him, my buddy with his L98 can beat a stock 01 GT and you guys look to be about the same besides he has a carb and you have HSR.

HSR should have been a noticeable difference - is everything tuned right?

Re: 01 gt vs my 88 irocz

set base timing to 8 degrees, run good fuel, and leave stock fuel pressure with those larger 24 lb injectors.

My car with those mods would run down stock/exhaust only GT's. Full bolt on GT's with headers/tune/pullies etc tho were dead even heat, with abit of advantage to the GT.

Re: 01 gt vs my 88 irocz

Lol to be honest im runnin 50psi of fuel, i have stock tune right now which sux, but im tryin to get a megasquirt here soon so i should have some fun. I ported my throttle body a bit and every free mod known to man. I stayed dead even with him when my tranny was crap and mostly stock motor.

I know ill get him i was just curious as to how much should i be tryin to beat him by.

Oh and i ran a 14.5 with my bad tranny at the track. he hit a 14.2
----------
I found out my car likes more gas. I got a major advance in timing. lol im in teh ball park of 12-14 degrees. I know its alot but im in Fl. which i think helps and i run nothing but the best gas. like bp

My mechanic did the timing and i dont get a ping.

Re: 01 gt vs my 88 irocz

hard to say, all motors will respond differently. I think 12-14 is way to much, 10 probly be best. I've tried 11 and my car liked 8-9 best before i got my prom burning stuff

fuel pressure i liked abit more than stock but thats with stock 22 lb injectors. 24's will already inject more fuel on a stock motor, so more pressure adds even more. If your car likes it, then use it. You have some things to play with to see which gives you the best times

I think you can get a car on him if you race to 100-110 but it should be close. i have vids of my race witha full bolt on, gears, tuned GT with a kid that could drive. he was 13.3's that day and i was 13.5's i think. This was my before tuning runs. It was close most of the way till the 1000 foot mark

Must be an FI thing, I don't see 14* inital as too much. How much timing will the computer add under WOT? (Assuming no knock.)

Re: 01 gt vs my 88 irocz

on my stock 89, the base is suppose to be 6 degrees and the computer will add 10-12 or so at idle i think it is. At wot, it will add about 26 degrees.

so having 14 at base will be adding 8 more degrees to the whole spark table. Some places that my help but up top end i think thats too much timing, it could be around 40 degrees. It depends on the stock tune tho, i'm not sure what prom code he would be running. At that high i can almost guarentee its pulling timing due to knock. you wont hear it ping since the ECM will pull timing well before you will ever hear anything.

Re: 01 gt vs my 88 irocz

Thats a good thing to know. I will be getting a Megasquirt soon like I said, and supposedly and can control timing and all on it. I mean i dont think i will lose an all out amazing amount of power with the timing.

That makes sense, without tuning I guess more than 10* would be an awful lot if it'll add up to 26* at WOT.
