My 89 bird has a 305 tpi with the free mods, AFPR, hooker headers, no cats, 3 inch cat back, ported plenum, custom ram air intake, msd coil and wires, rebuilt trans with vette servo and transgo shift kit, AC and AIR delete, low temp thermostat, removed spare tire and jack and rear seat for weight, and got weld in subframe connectors.

My challenge is a 04 Neon SXT. I know that the SRT4 would kill me but what do I need to edge out a SXT with an AEM intake and full header back exhaust? I know he is lighter and revs higher and I know that cause he stick and I'm auto, I'm more or less screwed but what can I do for about $350 that could help me catch up? I only need to beat this car by a half a fender, not even that, maybe quarter of a fender. Please help. Maybe a 6AL box could help or something, but please help, I need to know by Friday. Thanks

 

hell at best run high 15s...i ran one that had even more then the upgrades mentioned here and all he could muster was a 15.9.....

 

a sxt? you cant be serious. i whould run a sxt in my 2.slow jetta much less my iroc. if you are going to use the 350 bucks load up some m/t et streets or a used nitrous kit.

i doubt you will need any of this , but if you want to make sure go with DR or a used wet kit

 

ok umm what makes u think an automatic will cause u to automaticly lose? automatics are better for drag racing.....the only way youll lose is if 1. break down 2. he has a lot more then mentioned 3. Your car isnt working properly....ur car should be mid to hight 14s easy...

 

Well thanks guys but I still want to be sure because my car isn't a 350. I forgot to mention that I have an airfoil and a K&N filter at the end of my intake. I don't know if it helps but everybit counts, right? I also forgot one free mod, the TB coolant bypass, I need to find a 5/8 coupling I think. I was wondering if there was anything I could take out easily to save on weight. Help please! I only have till Friday. Don't make a third gen lose to a neon!

 

If you're looking at cutting weight take an Exlax and take a huge crap.

You can easily pop out the rear seats. I really don't think you'll need to do all of that though...unless you have a seizure while driving you shouldn't lose this one.

 

1st proritie should be making certain youre car is in good tune. plugs, wires, cap + rotor, tps, iac. ect.... Do that first. Make sure you race him from a dig. And in the mean time, practice getting that thing to hook up.

 

Exlax? Uh, no, that's ok, I'll pass. As far as in good tune, it is. I had to replace a gasket at the end of the driver's header connecting to the y pipe but I already did that. I have delco plugs in it cause Bosch are to expensive. It seems like I could win but what else can I do besides nitrous that will help me to win? I think I probably run low 15's high 14's cause I still get beat by my buddy's STI and he runs a 13.8 but I don't lose by much. That was before the headers and exhaust that we raced. I probably picked up a tenth so maybe I could beat the SXT. What else can I do to win?!?!

i beat my bodies stock 03 sxt with my firebird 3.1L auto. stock with 151k on the clock. you should kill him by lengths. and just becuase you dont got a 350 doesnt mean much. the 305tpi still got some get up and go. so stop complaining and go race him. if you do lose them its b/c of 2 things. 1) hes got alot more mods then said. 2) your just plain retarded at driving.

the 04 sxt make 132HP and 130TRQ. with his mods he might be around 150HP and 150TRQ MAYBE!!!!

the 89 305 makes 195HP and 295TRQ. with your mods you should be around 220HP and 320TRQ.

DO THE MATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

seriously, if you're worried about losing to a basically stock neon sxt, you don't need to be racing.

theres absolutely no reason why you would lose this race.

 

Race him a short distance. You will pull hard on him in the beginning. I guarantee it.

 

race him from a dig or from a roll. you will win no matter what. unless your RETARDED!

hell you can leave it in drive and still kill him.

you win. if you cant beat a sxt. then you dont belong driving a fbody. let alone a 5.0L.

i beat a 2003 sxt with a 3.1L auto.

 

if u have a stock transmission it usually is better to leave it in drive....

if your going to do another quick free mod take out the egr walls in the intake. when i did that i noticed a good gain
