91 B4C vs. 67 mustang

I work with this kid whose parents bought him a 67 mustang. All i really know is it a 3 speed auto, basically stock, and definitely not restored but in decent condition. Given this lack of information what do you think my chances are of beating him in the 1/4 with a 91 B4C with the L98 with most of the "free" mods like windows in air box, etc.; custom exhaust (don't know brand but has headers and mandrel bent catback); and smog stuff removed. I already challenged him to a grudge race at the local speedway but I'm curious what my chances are of winning so i can decide whether or not to put a bet on it.

p.s. I know it doesn't have a worked over engine like it should

Re: 91 B4C vs. 67 mustang

the best you could get in a 67 mustang is a 289... and while those are peppy motors if you change out some parts, in stock form there about 175-200 Hp max.... i have a friend who has a 67 convertible with a rebuilt 289 with aftermarket cam, intake and carb with headers and true duels stock tranny and rear end and its a nice combo. A decent build 350 tpi will roast it. We were realistically paper racing its still winter here after all.. and with my mild build l98 id kill him.. l98 stock block heads and cam . aftermarket intake, runners, distributor/ wires , 2400 stall , ls1 drive shaft, 342 posi rear end. He def has some weight advantage as those cars are smaller and lighter but hed be roast.

Re: 91 B4C vs. 67 mustang

In 68 v8 options were 302, 390, and 428 ci. HP was rated at 230 for the 302 and upwards of 400 for the 428. Most likely your friend has a 302 since the 390 was in the GT390 and the 428 was in the cobrajet. I think if he has a close to stock 302 in good tune, and your car is in good tune, you should beat him convincingly if driving and traction are equal. A good running L98 should be in the mid 14's, he will be lucky to get out of the 16's
