I have an 84 Z28 (305HO) with 5 speed and 3.73 rear gears. My mods are as follows edelbrock RPM intake and 600 carb with open element air cleaner. Accel distributor w/ vac. advance and HEI supercoil, wires and plugs. No Smog equipment, hollow cat. Clutch is good and I can keep traction in first and second without too much wheel spin. My friend recently purchased a 2000 Civic SI and has been talking s**t ever since. It's completely stock.

Those d#@% rice grinders rev so fast they are very hard to beat. There's a guy in my town that has a civic that street races it alot. One night I pulled up next to him at a red light. In 1st he jumped so far out in front of me I thought I would never catch him but once I got my revs up it was all over. DON"T KID YOURSELF THESE RICE GRINDERS ARE QUICK.

I'll say yes, but I'm not sure. What #'s do those cars make??

One thing you should know about the cheap low end ricers "non luxury" is they can have killer low end and no top or killer top end and no low. They cant have bolth unless thier cruzing with the NOS valve open. So they are almost all setup for low end "0-60"
If the ***** is mostly stock or doesent have NOS you will win the race because you have more HP in the upper rpm band.

Ok, I've never raced one DIRECTLY, but I'm sure you'll win. Here's how I know. It's like one of those 5th grade math questions.
1) There's a kid on my campus with a 2000 SI.
2) There's a kid on my campus with a 1994 LS Integra with Intake and Exhaust mods.
3) There's a kid around my house with a 1996 GS-R integra with intake and exhaust mods.
4) I drive an 1987 IROC with an LG4 "L.O.", my mods, as of this race, were 160* thermostat, dual snorkle intake, free flow cat, and 3" hooker cat back system.
Well, at my campus, the Integra LS beats the Civic SI. So you know that the integra LS is faster. At home, I barely beat my friends GS-R Integra. So I'm faster than the GS-R. The GS-R would be faster than the LS integra. MEANING, the GS-R is also faster than the Si Civic, and therefore I'm faster than all those cars. You car is probably faster than mine, so you'll take him....

My friend just got one of those Civic SI's they are slowww!! they are somewhere in the high 15's in the quarter mile maybe even low 16's if I remember correctly. don't worry about it just race him and you will see that they are nothing to brag about at all.
Member
Yup,they are in the high 15s,you"ll get him, my 305 4 barrel beat a type r integra,i also beat my friends new type r in a road race with a jetta, lol, but he cant drive and hug the turns,i love that german engineering!

Hey,
I doubt your 305 beat a Type 'R'. Was it a real Type 'R' or did it sport a sticker?!?! Cause real Type 'R' cars run high 14's all day.
Be careful what you call rice to. MKIV Supras with Turbos or N/A will pounce on most any 3rd Gen Camaros. Hell I just race a N/A one and see how close that rice car is to you.
You old school *******s need to learn about the new age..... your muscle cars are dieing.... they stopped making all those Chevelle's, GTO's, Charger's, Cuda's, Cyclones, and the REAL Cougers back in the 60's and 70's.
May as well enjoy speed as speed! I would take a Twin Turbo 300ZX over any Muscle car. Why?? Cause all wheels turn.... it gets 20 MPG in the city and best of all....... it will run low 13's all day!!
Becareful old people and young alike..... the Imports are fast..... respect them and they will do the same for you.

I would rather have a Chevelle or Camaro any day of the week over the rice mobiles...Maybe you should change your name to RICELOVNPUNK or maybe IGOTAHAVEABIGSPOILERANDSTICKERSTOGOFASTLOVNPUNK
Sorry but we don't buy our cars for gas mileage...If I want that, I'll buy a 91 Ford Festiva.....Comparing imports to muscle cars is like comparing Rice and Steak...Which one would you want?
There is no replacement for displacement...
and also, 8 cylinders is greater than 4
Got Power?

Why must rice guys feel the need to always compare their new cars to 15 year old Camaros? I mean, I don't compare my car to a 91 toyota. I think it is pathetic that in 15 years there is still a debate on whether a civic or an integra can beat a 305 Camaro. That really doesn't say that much for those cars. BTW, I have egged every ***** in Toledo that I have seen and only had competition with turbo talons because they take off faster.

Its not ALL about performance. If it was, we'd trade in our third gens for fourth gens. It also about "OUR" cars. Lets say you had a Datsun 280Z... its old, but has extreme potential, and it's yours. YOU put on the webers, rebuilt the block, upgraded the suspension. It may still lose to todays "Super Cars" but still beats holds its own against many. People with Si's and GSR's paid over 20 grand for their cars when they could get an Camaro or Mustang instantaneously making then 13,14 sec runners. But they didnt... because they like Si's and GSR's and we like our "muscle cars". <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by CamaroLuvnPunk:

Sound a lot like a Current Gen F-Body LS1 Z28 except the LS1 gets 28 MPG and cheaper and not AWD (or AWS?)<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by CamaroLuvnPunk:

The 300ZX is AWD or AWS?? I Didn't know that. Since when? (not being sarcastic - really didn't know). I thought the 3000GT was the AWD/AWS car.

Amen to that trigen. Its all about what you like. I'm building a 72 firebird, but i drive a saturn every day. Its not an import but may as well be. I wouldn't drive my muscle car every day, because of gas prices and because it would kill the car. I'd rather get a few kicks with a quick economical car on weekdays, and beat the pants of quick economy cars on weekends. but like trigen said, its all about what you like. Just keep it real.

All's I know that my Bird w/a 120K and ofcourse all the mods, beats my Lexus GS400 and my friends XJR Vander Plas (longer version of the full size Jag)
We raced 0-100. I'm confident I can take any of the above mentioned Rice. Propably even some with the "super-cool" stickers and gaping-hole mufflers or whatever those noisy, annoying things are. LOL

Just hang in there and you'll eventually pass him. He'll slow down significantly around 60 mph. I raced a little civic one time in my 68 El Camino. The little twerp stayed right next to me until 60 mph. It made me a little worried because the Elky would really get with the program from 0-60. He either ran out of good gearing or just couldn't pull any more because I ended up winning by 3 seconds in the quarter.

I have to agree with those who say we have to respect this new so called "fast cars" somw of them are respectively faster than our thirdgens. But still keeping this in mind I would not trade my RS for any Import. And about the V-Tecs they are not that fast I beat my friend in his 95 GS-R with plenty of mods. He was so damn happy that I only beat him by like a car and a half.

finally got to race the Civic SI today. it wasn't even close at any speed. I could pull on him from any gear I wanted to. I did do alot more mods to my Z28 though, not that I was worried about losing to him after reading some of these posts. I bought this car for $500 bucks about three months ago and it has taken about $1,500 to make it quick. in addition to the mods i listed originally I added a port and polish job also had the heads milled and lathed. i also changed the cam to a comp cam 262XE (great car pulls to 6grand now!) and added a fluidampr harmonic balancer. for the exhaust i used full length headers and flowmaster muffler. for two grand i killed his $25,000 dollar import and i did all of the work myself since small block chevys are pretty simple to work on. personally i would rather buy something cash and build it up rather than pay a huge car payment and void the warranty by adding mods to the car.

I am glad to hear you got him,we all knew you would,as for CAMAROLUVNPUNK,get lost, why are you even on this site?,you have a handful of post and obviously aren't a dedicated f-body enthusiast,i just laugh at your post,my 305 4 barrel did beat a v-tech,they aren't as fast as you think my friends new type-r was quick but no comp for my 305 tpi,i respect all cars that are fast, but i love the sound of a smallblock chevy, not weedwhackers,i respect the 300zx and 3000gt,but i like my thirdgen, its better looking then most new cars,oh,did you say a 300zx was AWD/AWS,you have to be mistaken, its rear wheel just like our cars, but you might not know that since you probably drive a honda yourself and are coming here to find out the secret to our success,go to www.ricers.com where you belong.

i agree with all of you..
but the 300ZX TT do have AWS..well sorta.
it is call HICAS (don't know what it means). that allows the REAR wheels of the car to turn oposite of the front wheels, up to 2 degrees in either direction at speeds above 40. and at speeds about 20 it will turn them up to 1 degree.

I agree, the 2000 Z28 i got get's the nice mileage and is quick. But compareing it to a viper is like compareing the iroc to a 4 cyl. mustang. I mean come on. And raceing a ***** is like me going to the next county and raceing that old man with the 2001 vette all macked out with NOS n' stuff. Bet i'd win that one... In any case guys...you never know till you try...(then again, i'm afraid of trying
