question bout speeding?

idk if this is the rite place to post this but anyway friday i was driving to an interview i had. my friend that came with me suggested we take a shortcut thru the state park i have never taken before. i love the scenery in there so i went that way. i will be honest i was going a lil fast between 60 and 65. my friend can verify i never went over 65. ik i have oversized tires but i have tested my speedometer a few diffrent ways its accurate within 1 or 2 mph. we were talking having fun i saw no speed limit signs so assumed it was as usual no sign means its 55mph so i figured i was safe up to 65 mph. well i come around a sharp bend and theres a park cop sitting there of course he pulled me over. i figured am only about 8 miles over no big deal and pulled over. well the cop claimed i was going 74mph and his radar confirmed it..so he wrote me a ticket sayin i was doing 74 in a 35. well ik i was not doing 74 mph and if i was going 40mph over i would have never stopped!! anyway after my interview i went back the same way. and the speed zone there is 40 not the 35 he wrote on my ticket. i got pictures of all the signs and the area were the cop sat and a picture showing what he could see from were he was parked. and the way i went when i got the ticket there is only one speed sign in the 6.5miles of that road i had drivin and it was ruffly 2.5 miles before the spot i got pulled over. sorry for the long post but i was wondering if anyone has any tips how to fight this? i am gonna write a letter for request of discovery. to get the details on the cop his training on the radar gun. the type of gun and when it was last tested/ calibrated. and i got pics of all the signs and everything. what else can i do? i am trying to get a cdl license and cant afford any tickets rite now and this one is total bs. so any help is greatly appreciated

Re: question bout speeding?

If there really was no speed limit sign before the spot you got pulled over, you should be able to fight the ticket. Especially considering the officer was wrong on the speed limit.

Then again, courts don't care and will usually always side with the officer. Cop pulled me over and tried telling me I was doing 65 when I was doing ******* 38 in a 35 ( I know this for a fact because at the time, I drove it in Overdrive and it won't engage under 40mph ). I literally asked him if he was joking when he told me that. He even had the audacity to try and " cut me a break " by writing 50 in a 35 on the ticket. Sure I might have gotten to 38 in a very short amount of time, but its not like I floored it and spun the tires. That was a nice $150 I had to pay because of an ******* who decided that he didn't like my car.

have you done a gear swap or changed your tires to bigger ones ? I know that can throw you off big time if you don't correct it? Just a thought.

Its a possibility on the gears. My car has had like 5 owners before me but Im positive my speedometer is very accurate. I have the digital dash.

As far as the tires, I know they're the standard size. It still has the original 16'' GTA rims and 245/50 R16s on them. ( Obviously not 24 year old tires haha )

yeah man, check your rpo codes just to be sure. You never know. Maybe you need a speedo gear cause the former owner could have swapped gears on you.

Id be really surprised considering that not a damn thing else has been swapped on the car and the condition its in. Its clear that one of the last owners did NOT take care of the car at all.

And the RPO codes...yea. One of the previous owners was bright enough to remove the sticker from the center console.

Re: question bout speeding?

What i would honestly try, is if you have a android phone look up speedometer and it should pop up. download and use it and compare to what your car says. the app reads your speed my using signal, sorta like tracking you. it uses GPS. i have used the map and i was off by 2. the app is very, VERY accurate because of it using GPS. i would give it a try, you wont be undersided.

Yeah my speedometer is broken and I use ulysee Speedometer. It shows your Speed, compass, average speed, elevation, 0-60,0-100, and 1/4. Also it shows how much you have driven. It isn't 100% accurate, but it works pretty well. Only down side is it drains your battery like crazy.

Mine was in the console. Depends on the car year & the assembly workers mood the day the car was built. :P

Sometimes in the console...Sometimes in the rear...Sometimes under the carpet....Sometimes thrown in the trash while the car was on the assembly line. It is nowhere near a consistent item in a 3rd gen.

I will try that tomorow on my way to work. I have 31 inch truck tires on back for the winter. That sounds like it would throw it off a lot but I have tested my speedo by comparing it to those speed things cops put on roads to see how fast people go thru areas. And my speedos been acurate wihin 2 miles of them. so i know there's no way I was goin the 74 mph the cop said I was going. Does anyone having more ideas I can do to fight this I cant let this get on my record and its bs and should not have happened in the first place. And ik if cops make serious mistake when wrighting a ticket its voided. But does wrightin 35 mph zone instead of 40 count as a serious mistake?

Re: question bout speeding?

Do you have the option to take a traffic class? Here in Az we have a class you can take so it does not go on your record. But can only do it every 3 years. If you have this option i would do that. Or fight it, when i had my Iroc i was pulled over every few weeks. Always let me go. One time I got pulled over by a state cop and got my first ticket in the Iroc, I fought it because i said he had stereotyped me for the kind of car i was driving, before he came up to my window he unbuckled his gun from the holster. And yelled are there any weapons in the car? I said no Sir, my 2 children are in the back seat. So I fought it and WON!!!

Re: question bout speeding?

You can take a defensive driving course to get a reduced fine. But I am trying to find ways to fight it cuz I know I was not goin as fast as he said I was and I have a witness who can verify my speed. And with there only bein the one speed sign witch was Almost 2 miles before were he Pulled me over. I think I can use to say I thought it was 55 zone cuz round here no sign means you can go 55.
