Im sure this has been rought up a milion times but bear with me. Me and my friend are gonna race like thursday. He drives a 1984 Mustang 5.0 L . As far as i know hes got a rebuilt engine with new parts. He also said its a 4 speed manual, he dosent really have anything elce. BUt what I m wondering is that mabye his car is so light that it coudl stand a chance. WHat do you guys think.

From you sig, I'd say you'd have him, as long as he hasn't done anything major, as in cams heads intake stuff. If he's done heads, cam, and intake, it'd probably come down to the driver and suspension...depending on what kind of cam your running

Does he have new STOCK parts or new high performance parts. If he put a small carb and stock cam you will destroy him. But if he has performance parts like Cam, Heads, Intake, etc it should be a good race.

He has a few preformance parts, I think he has heads and a cam.

You should take him, depending on the heads and cam he is probably running between a 13.8-14.8 if he can drive it. I think in the end you will win, but run the two and post.

not too sure on the gear ratios on the old 4 speeds. With heads and a cam, the car is opened up quite a bit over stock. However, those parts won't really work to their maximum without a decent exhaust, and a decently matched carb and intake. I'd say you'd still take him, my 5.0's stock, and it's still a bear to get traction off the line...your auto and 2000 stall should really help ya out there. If you've got some decent gears, I'd lay money on you.

I dunno....if it is STOCK, you have him beat. But depending on which heads and cam he has, he could be 15's...or he could be low 14's. You never know.

ummm just wondering why there's even a question of a winner here..four eyed Mustang 5.0 vs. 383 stroker GTA.unless this mustang shoves a rocket up it's *** or has an insane amount of mods which it doesn't like it does there's no question the GTA is going to destroy it unless there's some unfortold act of G O D or something..

Yeah you should have no problem with the 84 given your mods. They are 175 hp stock. My friends got one with headers, true duel exhaust with flowmasters, intake mods and an MSD ignition and I still smoke him despite my car being a little heavier. Also knew a kid with an 85 GT Vert. He had a cam, intake and a carb and ran 15.3. Respectable for an otherwise stock car, but I think I could have taken him too and I'm mostly stock.

I don't know enough about what you run to make an informed answer, but if he's got Heads, and cam, and an induction system to match, and his car is tuned, his car could be capable of anywhere from mid 12s-high 13s.

Hard to know though without knowing exactly what it has. 84 stangs were slugs, but the 5.0 takes well to cams and heads and induction. I dunno though...tough one to call

c'mon guys thats a little rediculous..... do you really think that an 84 mustang 5.0 would be able to hang with the 89 GTA with a 383 stroker?? look at his mods that is so rediculous. i think you should race the mustang, and blow his doors off. i've raced my buddies 88 gt 5.0 5 speed a few times, and even though its stock, i havent gotten beaten down. look at my car in the sig.......
not really impressive

That was probably an 80's M*****g. If not, that was 1 mistuned GTA.
