The ZZ5.0 vs the world!!!
Had a good night racing last night so I'd thought i'd share what happened. I got a call from a buddy of mine inviting me out for some high speed debauchery. Here's the car list as follows and these are the actual cars....
A stage 3 SRT-4 on 22psi

A Stock SRT-4 with an after market blow off valve

A 4 door single cam civic on 20psi

A 88 Fox body with a 347 stroker with GT40 heads,a 750 holley carb and full exhaust

and a few others but they didn't race
So we go out to our local spot to get a few runs in. It seemed like everybody was gunning for me because I raced damn near every car there, lol. My first run was the Stage 3 STR-4. His car is pretty damn quick, the best it's run so far on radials and race gas was a 12.39 and on street tires a 13.33 (crazy how much a differance sticky tires make) last night though he was on street tires and 87 so I can understand the "handicap". We line up and I try my damndest to heat up my bald *** radial and he heats up his. On the go I got about a four car jump thanks to the nittos and held him off about 3/4's of the race up until he started to pull me in quick around the top of third gear. He got me by about a car and a half at the end of the run.
My next race was against the the 4 door civic. From the start he asked me if i could give him a car and at first i was like "hell no" it's heads up or nothing but from the persistant nagging of my friends I conceded to give him the one car head start. From the arm drop I immediately put 3 cars out of the hole from him and by the time we were at the end I had a 6 car lead on the soy sauce machine.
The next race was against the Fox and it was an interesting one. The engine that is in the car used to be in a 94 mustang that the same friend used to own. We raced then and I would beat that car by about 2 at the end of the run. Now that the engine was in a lighter car I figured I would get owned, luckily that was not the case, lol. We line them up and from the arm drop I get about a 4 car jump on him. He started to reel me in around the top of third gearbut we crossed the finish line at the same damn time...dammit lol. For me that was to close to call so we're going to line them up again on sunday during the day to see who gets to the end first.
That was the end of our "dig" runs and on the way home I raced the stock SRT-4 from about a 40 roll. On three I gave him the jump and reeled him in hard and just pulled away. by the time we shut down I was about 5 cars ahead. I didn't think that the differance from stage 1 and stage 3 was so big lol. All in all we had alot of fun.

What are the specs to your zz305? I have a set of 89 corvette aluminum heads on hand, and have the money to duplicate your combo.

Re: The ZZ5.0 vs the world!!!
Mildly ported and rebuilt ZZ4 Aluminum heads with brand new valve springs and a 3 angle valve job
ZZ4 Roller camshaft and all new timing gear and chain
LS7 lifters
K&N Air filter with Home made non drop base air cleaner
MSD 8.5mm Red super conductor wires and fresh R45TS ACDelco plugs
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake that has been gasket matched
Comp cams 1.6 roller tip rockers on the intake and Patriot Gold 1.5 roller rockers on the exhaust
TransDapt Throttle body adapter to mate a GM throttle body to a standard carb intake
Modded factory throttle body with flow matched 55lb injectors and new TPS and IAC valve
Full Hooker exhaust with ceramic coated and gasket matched 2055's
Transmission....
B&M shift kit ( had it for years and it works great)
Modified TV valve
Edge 3200 stall
Rearend....
3:42 Eaton posi with Moser 26spline axles
Summit diff cover with bearing cap hold downs
and a ton of suspension work that I don't feel like typing lol. The car as a WHOLE is pretty dialed in. I can't say that it's the engine alone making all the power.

Re: The ZZ5.0 vs the world!!!
I agree, I was tossing around the idea of pulling the heads to do some heavier port work, adding a Hot cam and a single plane with a bigger throttle body. It feels like she noses over a little on the top end. But alas, I have the motor for sale in the for sale section and on craigslist. I'm ready to get my LT based 383 finished. Its time to progress for me although the 305 has been damn good to me.

sounds like some good runs! always good to surprise some folks with the little motors. funnest one i had was a guy with a 377 (4.00"x3.75", not destroked 400) with brodix track 1's, and a slew of other hotrod goodies in a 78ish camaro. i got him off the line by a car or two, and was able to hold him off for the full quarter.
