Put a kid in a Ranger in his place tonight...lol

So I was out cruising tonight. Had to take a video back, and then stopped by to talk to my dad about an 89 GT he found for my girlfriend. Anyway, on my way back home a buddy of mine called my cell to ask if I could help him put the PI torque converter her just got in his 94 GT next friday afternoon. So while we're talking, we discuss a couple things, and I pull up at a stop light next to a kid in a Ford Ranger. When the light turns green he took of squealing his tires as I just come off the line normally not trying to race. You know how it is though, you CAN'T let them think they beat you so I got on it, caught him, and put many car lenghts on him before letting off at 60 mph. My friend could here me over the cell phone and was like "Woah! What was that?!?!" so I just said..."ehh...just putting some kid in a Ranger in his place."

Hehe, just another days work (or fun that is). Too bad ya have a Stang, well atleast ya beat a ford . Sucks where I live, hardly any two lane stop lights, either straight and left only, or straight and right only.

It just amazes me that anyone in a 4 cylinder would think they stand the slightest chance against a 5.0 Mustang in the lane next to them with a lumpy cam, loud exhaust, and big fat tires in the back with skinny tires in the front.

I feel sorry for you fox-body Mustang guys. Everyone in this world feels like they have to have a car/truck thats faster than a 5.0 so they always try and prove themselves at street lights. Must make for a lot of useless races.

Good point dude. Same way around here, mustangs are kinda the basline for a cars performance around here. That and Lt1 cars. I don't get many races though, but that probably has to do with the time of year. Not like I'd win against much anyway

I have a friend who has a V6 ranger and has claimed beating several 5.0 stangs, it's like if you can beat on of those then damn you must be fast!

I think he has more mustang kill stories than I do, but i have never actually seen him beat a mustang

one of those things i guess

Smacked a few rangers around myself, but it's usually their competitors...

S10s, Sonomas...And why not? You have a sporty truck and a near stock 4000 pound old car on tiny tires pulls up next to you. They always do the same thing- catch second. This one guy and his girlfriend in Lexington or thereabouts had a death wish. He was riding my *** on every curve so I got to a straightaway, I started walking away from him, slowly seeing as he was already heavy on his truck. All of a sudden, as I was pulling off, he moved over in the passing lane. I had to drop the brake pedal hard to let him get by. I was pulling off and he still moved over to pass. This truck was pretty new and as you people put it, "riced out". When he got in front of me, I decided that I would run him down. He passed a van without even looking. I waited and passed as well. Ahead he passed 3 people in a row. I decided this little rich preppie jerk wasn't worth the trouble or danger. This truck was WEAK. Rarely do you see brand new vehicles that look that sporty and spaced out and still be sooo slow. This guy had to be running 18s or 19s. Probable his wings and speakers had him weighed down.
I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm going to test drive one of those little trucks- any brand and see if they just FEEL fast. Maybe that's it.

There are WAY to many people like that in my neck of the woods. Those punk kids will practically kill themselves taking crazy risks cause they know i wont follow them into death. If one of those guys ever met me at a red light, they wouldnt so much as even think about throwing me a rev. I dont know whether or not theyre intimidated by my car, but i never get any street challenges in my Vette. Ive had an LS1 Trans Am wimp out. I even paced another Vette, a 90' i think, at about 100mph, but when we got to a light, he just ***** footed it. So i bought a Z28 with the LG4, thinking people would race that, but still havent had a street challenge. What gives? Im not trying to sound cocky or anything, but no one in my area ever street races me. Im bored.

I can offer a possible reason...

1) They are afraid of losing to a car that they feel SHOULD be slower.
2) They may be afraid of they fact that your car is slightly faster, just as fast, or slightly slower. In this case, they may be afraid that they would have to drive too fast to race you. But then again, what's a sports car for? Damn sure alot safer than my LTD doing 110 on ancient 14s.
3) This one is not exactly a reason, but an observation. I assume that you guys put up with constant complaints about your racing. Ever notice that alot of people condemn stoplight racing, and yet drive 20-30 over with a phone jammed in their ear? What they hell? I usually do the speed limit or at the most, on rare occasions, 15 over. I'm very courteous unless someone tries to be pushy, and in that case I have 4000 lbs and over 250 lbs-ft of torque to push with. Not a monster but no light snack.
Very odd. The wimpiest trucks are driven the hardest. Most of the time. Just got a thought of one time I was inside a movie rental store. This guy comes flying across the lot, catches second and then sweeps around to the video drop off. All the time he was there he was revving the hell out of his 4 cylinder. After that he takes off again, catches second and to the highway he goes. Ever notice they never attempt a burnout takeoff? Jeez, I can rip more *** in my LTD. By that metaphor, it's a one cheek *** rip.

I'd love to race a Vette. I've only had two try race me in the past and one of them tried to race me in traffic on a wet road (not going to happen) and the other race ended about 30 feet after it started when another car ran a red light and I had to stop to keep from getting T boned.

TPI,

My apologies...it's Bud's Creek we're supposed to be going to, not Cecil County, but if you want to make the drive out there I'll let you know when we're going to go. I hear it's faster than VMP.

Weird things happen around Big Trucks

Back many, many moons ago, I worked as a driver for a construction equipment company. One afternoon, the Boss sends two of us out on a pickup run and tells us that on our way back from picking up the machine, we are to stop by the repair place and pick up his car, then bring it back to the yard. (This was the kind of boss who gave Sh_T assignments like thisl)

The truck we were driving was an '88 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 Diesel (non Turbo) that weighed about 7000lbs. The trailer and equipment we were towing weighed about another 7000lbs

That's a 14,000lb vehicle here. You measure the 0-60 time with a sundial, not a stopwatch.

I drove the boss's car, a Mercedes 190e of indeterminate '80's vintage.

I could not keep up with the truck.
