Why is it so damn hard to find a race?
I just got my new car today. Its an 89 TA with a 355cid out of a 68 Chevelle (rebuilt obviously). Anyways the car is sick! It is nothing like my 305TPI. Off a stop the launch is like a rocket, the tires hook, fishtailing a bit and then the dun begins
!
Well on to the story. I took the car out at 7 pm and cruised for about an hour and a half looking for races. I lined up with so many "raceable" cars but once I threw a rev at them they all backed down. One was a 99-02 GT which I really wanted to rape just to see how fast my car really is. But after he saw the meaty 275's, a twin power bulge hood, and twin 3-inch exhausts he pussied out.
I can't believe this. With my old LB9 I used to always race cars that I knew would beat me but it seems everybody around here are chicken****s.
Do you guys with fast cars that also look fast scare off potential races too?

No one races me in my Vette, either. Now its not terribly fast, but it sure does suck Hondas off the road with ease. There are a few cars running around where i live that supposedly run good numbers, but i have verbally challenged them and came up with nothing. They just want to race imports, and stuff they are sure they can beat. If theres a slight chance they could lose, they back out. *******.
Not many people seem to race this time of year, at least around here. That and the fact that, at least in my state, you get caught racing you not only get whatever tickets but spend the weekend in jail, period, no questions about it. And if your lucky you only get your license taken away for 3 months but its usually a year. Automatically. If you go more than 30 over the posted speed limit and get caught, same result. Straight to the county slammer, no questions asked. And you probably won't drive for a while. Thats enough to keep some people from doing it.
Does this stop us though? Nah. Just make sure you look around REEEEL good and know the area. We only REALLY race in remote locations, but still do a run to about 70 from a stoplight along a few roads. I need a radar detector too just for a little extra help .

BTW I guess i should add i'm just kinda ina foul mood right now so don't think I'm a anti-racing jerk or anything. Another thing I'd like to add is I don't bother trying to ever instigate a race since I'm not exactly competitive
stupid low output engine. Oh well, the power will come when the $$ for it does.
stupid low output engine. Oh well, the power will come when the $$ for it does. Here it's not hard at all to find a race. When I first got my car I could go to te place where people cruse and find 4-5 races in 2 hours. Now when I get board I just go to a local park and chill in the parking lot and within an hour someone will drive by and want to race. It's a lot safer the new way I do it; no cops and no people on the road.
Speaking of this I'm going to race my friends 97 6-speed TA on Sat. or Friday; so wish me luck, I'll post the results ASAP.

Let's see.....in my '88 2.8 Bird with only high-flow cat and exhaust work, I've been toasted by a '93 5.0 'Stang, whipped by 2 'Vettes, and shamed by numerous other 'fast' vehicles. However, the cars like that are always domestics, are always much faster then me, and are always for fun - usually I manage to signal "two - point - eight" with my mouth/hands when we get a shot at side-by-side again. Of course, a good percentage of the time, it's ME revving the little engine..lol.
So in conclusion, no, faster cars don't intimidate me...they just beat me.

. I love to race people, but sometimes I'm not in the mood, especially now, its just too cold to want to do anything. Plus I specifically like to race people I know, when other strangers on the road try to race, I don't know if theyre are just bein @sses or wanna race. Can't wait till spring tho!!

It always seems like when my car is running great, the roads are great, and traffic is minimal, no one wants to race. Then when my car has a problem, the weather sucks, and lots of traffic, some moron wants to go at it. Since my thirdgen is my daily driver year round and Chicago winters normaly suck (this year has been very mild so far) I dont race anyone until spring. Sure, I'll race a car that is faster than mine. I like to see how much I get beat by...and somtimes I surprise myself and win

Street racing can be fun, but keep your eyes out for the 5.0...and I aint talking about mustangs

i never had any trouble finding a race when i went to highschool last year, the way i took to school was the was everyone that lived out by me took, and when they see my car they just gotta race to school! fun as hell, i won most of the times (i only got a 2.8) but most of the cars were not sports cars. but this one kid always beat me... i dont konw the name of the car, it was really crappy looking and all rusted out but it sounded awsome. and of course my friend w/ the 8 cyl camaro beat me everytime, but that didnt last too long, he was in the parking lot of Burger King and treid to do a burn out and ended up with the front end in a light pole.
so then he bought another 8 cyl camaro... he let his friend borrow it to get something from his house (the same kid w/ the cappy car that sounds cool) and he ended up putting it in the ditch and that was the end of that one too! he now as a pick up truck.. i hate most pick up trucks except for the lowrider S10's. i plan on getting one of them for a winter car

I think it has something to do with the season. Not many people like to bring their cars out in the winter. Hope you get some good races when spring rolls around.
Not exactly the best time of the year to race. I am from the Boston area and we've been getting some snow so the roads are covered in sand/salt and there is always the possibility of black ice. Today, while merging onto the highway, i gunned my Mustang to merge into traffic going 65+MPH. Well i didn't see the sand on the edge of the first lane and my car kick out to the side at 50MPH! Scared the **** outta me.
This time of the year...I just drive.

I seem to pick up more races in my mav and my celica then I have in my rx-7
though granted I dont really know if they are racing me when I am in one of those cars but it sure looks like it from my end since they almost always win
was even beat by some old 80 year old grandma in her caddy today
though in my rex when I throw the revs at the import boys they b ack down and when it is at the domestics some will take the bait but others just sit there
though I care less who I race doesn't bother me if I lose I just enjoy the run
