2.8 '84 Firebird vs. 2000 Honda Civic SI Coupe

Alright guys, I have no idea on this cuz I have never took my car to the strip. Bone stock 2.8 v6 '84 Firebird vs. My friend's 2000 Civic SI Coupe, would it be close? would he kill me? And could you estimate 1/4 times for both of them? Thanks for the help

I'm not saying a civic is fast, but it will probably smoke a 2.8L especially if it is a stickshift car. I don't mean to hurt your feelings any here, but i could probably give you a good race with my 2100lb '89 corolla 4-door 1.6L 5-spd

Forgot to mention, I have a Thrush Turbo Muffler, if that makes much diffference at all.

For future questions involving racing your car against anything else, basically just default to the answer being you lose and you'll come out correct 99% of the time, lol...

One of my friends has a 2000 Civic SI, it ran a 15.9 stock at the track, now hes gotten it to a 14.4, w/ a 2.5 60ft. I think that is what he ran in the 60ft. I just know he spun a lot! That is still pretty impressive for the little 4 banger.

get some mods in ur car ... and u can go faster than him (stock ) for sure

the bad thing is he can add horses with very little money spent
and u cant ...

stroked ,overbored, cam, pulley, chip ,exhaust, modified intake , porting, polishing, shiftkit, most trans parts frm a vette, higher stall converter and a **** load more is what ive done ..... and im faster than civics ...for now
(after all this im having problems now hookin to the ground i spin and chirp 1-2 bad)

and curt86IROC comeon man u should be able to smoke him...

and one more thing 5 spd = good only if u can effectively shift it

most ppl who think they can do it (powershifting) end up blowing the tranny or clutch...

man i have an auto with a shift kit (+ 'vette servo and a boost valve...) ,... and unless ur really good u cant shift faster than my auto...

i didnt say i couldnt take a si civic, because i have, but i have seen people who can drive the 5 spd's and run mid 15's at the track. i doubt my car can run mid 15's and i doubt a 2.8 v6 can run anywhere near mid 15's without extensive mods......

just my 2 cents

When he isnt looking, drench the tread of his tires with that endurance tire gel from meguires, then race him for some bucks. That will be about the only chance you have, but if you decide to race him fair, nothing short of a 300 shot is going to keep it close.

This is not true at all. If you ever pick up a sport compact mag, you will notice that it takes some $1000 to put on a header, catback and intake on a 4 banger and then it only puts out some 5-10 hp at the wheels at best...

He's gonna win. He can run mid 15's-low 16's and 2.8's are slower than that.

you really have no chance....the 2.8 is not a fast car...where as the Si's are mildly quick. It will take a LOT of work to equal the speed in of the civic in that thing.

I raced a 1999 Civic in the 1/8 mile and i smoked him, in my 1992 Z24. It has a 3.1V6 and a flowmaster. He ran an 11.25 and I ran a 10.28

I wouldn't say Civics are fast cars by any means. They were built for reliability and good fuel economy. The Si version is a mildly tuned civic. That really doesn't mean much. Would you fear a mildly tuned Escort? They aren't really slow, (mid to high 15's) but seeing as how my newly purchased LO3 has already taken a few with only a open element and weight reduction...they aren't really fast either. Keep in mind, my car cost $800 off a friend....how do Si's cost?? 17,000??? or more even...HAHAHA

:hail: F-Bodies....

That poor camaro is going to get beat like a bad wife!! You are going to get the **** kicked out of you. Let him talk his bs and then just say that you are poor, or come up with some excuse not to race.

well...also, keep in mind that we both have different 305's and different cars...yours is loaded with stereo equipment and mine is fairly stripped (not my daily driver). I didn't make up the fact that I beat a few...there are some around here that i know of, and i have encountered a few at lights...as far as i know when i won, they were trying...
