I spent a ton of money to convert my car to stick and it is a hell of a lot faster now. The auto is a dog. With the stick I pull on Ls1's and LT1's through first gear. My 60ft times are better than theres but then they come roaring by. i prefer stick its a pain in the *** in traffic but it is wirth it.

from factory, the stick 305 and auto 350 were very close to the same speed. I find an auto with a shift kit and B&M shifter is just as fun as a stick car... and is also faster in the 1/4 mile since shifts are instantaneous.

The 305 5spd got bless with a better cam than the 305 auto's...thus making it a very close match for a 350 auto. I guess it's a matter of preference really. I would love to have bought a 5 spd but I wanted the 350 even more. This is solely my opinion, but I think the 350 has more potential.

I beleive in 89 or 90 the 305 TPI auto got the same cam as the 305 5 speed. This is a much debated subject on some other boards. My 1990 SD Lb9 is rated at 210 Hp from the factory, I believe all previous years(except 85 and maybe 89) were 190 hp.A 5 speed was not an option for me because my wife can't drive a manual. I really didn't want her to learn on my toy so an auto was the way to go for me.

If you can drive a stick, a 305 tpi T5 combo, could beat a 350 tpi auto quite easily, i've done it a few times.
Stock for stock that is.

A shift kit 350 will beat a stick shift 305 with all stock engine. Stock autos are sluggish.. I know, I have one.. LOL
