Dam car won't start after encountering rain!

Yah so I worked at Yorkdale yesterday and left the car outside didn't think it was going to rain, and couldn't find underground parking.

When I finished work, I drove the car home, dried it off with a towel, and parked it in the garage.

Woke up, went to go start it, and it won't start. It just goes "jugajugajugajugajuga" but nothing happens!

The other thing I noticed is when I push the clutch down I hear a wet squeeking sound... hmm....!

I need the thing to start, any ideas!?!

Does your "Service Engine Light" come on when you turn the key on?

remove the cap/rotor and blow it dry with a hair dryer. Also remove the plug wires one by one and look for corrosion or water.

Cap/rotor is on the distributor.

Not meaning to sound like an ***, but you really should have had someone check the car out thouroughly before you bought it for $10,000. The could have done a load test to check your electrcial system and a whole whack of others so you could have bargained with the price more.

very back center on top of the engine, it's the round thing all your plug wires go to.

Ok theres gonna be two screws holding down your distibuter cap. The cap is what all the wires attach to, its the big round plastic thing. You'll have to mark your wires somehow cause they have to go back in the same place. you only have to take off enough wires off the cap to get the cap off and expose the insides. The plastic thing on the inside is the rotor, when you can see that, take a hairdryer and dry both of them off. Take the wire off of your coil as well and dry the coil off just incase. The wire in the center of the cap(the shortest wire0 goes to your coil.

you have your TPI assembly at the top.

a
-- III--
--III--
--III--
-- III--

OK this cheezy diagram is your the top of your tuned port injection system. The III are the middle bulk part and the -- are the little spider legs or runners. The "a" is the distributor and is as close to the firewall as it can be. The distributer is about the size of a softball, you can't miss it. All of your wires go to it. You might have to unscrew the back plate of of your TPI system to access the distributor.

the drawing came out lopsided, the "a" should be center of the rest.

red with the yellow wires is the distributor. that is what they are trying to get you to remove.

Be sure to mark all the wires and where they go

No offense easyspeed, but if you're going to own a car like that, you might want to consider getting a Chilton or Haynes manual to familiarize yourself with your car. It will make it easier to help you out with your questions when you know what they are talking about. It will also save you tons of money, you wont have to take it to a mechanic everytime you need something small. BTW, I would have to say that by your diagram you were looking at the charcoal canister with rubber tubing coming out of it. If you just said "huh", then go out and get a manual and read up on it. Good luck...

I only mess with the insides of my car when I've got a good idea of what's in it to mess with. I refuse to be at the mercy of mechanics so I studied up on everything I could get my hands on in my car. I also have the benefit of my dad owning a bunch thirdgens prior and he always went in and messed with it all.

For the new guys to thirdgens, get a book. The basics are covered and although you may not get the urge to do a rebuild at least you'll know about the majority of parts in your car.

Kev, btw my egr is acting up on me so I was gonna clean it. What'd you use to clean it to get it all nice like that? Or did you do the sandpaper route?

I knew you guys were a curse to me lol.. I figured sooner or later the hell week would catch up to me and lo and behold.. a SES light!!! Itss intermittent, but the code stays in mem... Pulled a 32 out and got very very upset at the <1 year old egr that killed the rings on my block a few years ago... You think they make a "performance" egr lol? My car figured it didn't want to be left out of all the problems and decided just to annoy me it'll toss a 32 my way so it can be like the other thirdgens... typical.. its such a wannabe car.. it wants to be like the others lol...

Hey Slade, I used a dremel with a coarse grit sanding wheel on the base to remove the cast and then used sandpaper on the EGR itself. It's not perfect, but it will look better on the new intake.
I hope you figure out your code problem. Would you like me to look it up in my Haynes manual :lala:

I took the distributor cap off and blowdried it, but the car still doesn't start. Everything coming out of the distributor cap works. The rotor works fine. The wires all seem to be fine. It's giving a spark to the sparkplugs.

I'm stuck, don't know what to do. Probably gonna call a towtruck, hate to spend another $100 but what can you do!

Nah I know what code 32 means lol... me and 32 go back quite a few years lol... Code 32 is EGR solonoid failure I recall.. something like that. Thanks for the sanding tip.. that yellow brass color really bugs me... while I'm at it maybe a manifold paint job would be in order... would look nice hehe...

I don't think I've ever seen a thirdgen that liked that damn device... but with emissions, I'm stuck with it... maybe its time to look into an 87 older thirdgen and do the 350 boogie/hot rod status...
