Got a stupid question...

I have got kind of a stupid question just kinda curious if anyone here would know the answer.. If I were to just save up enough money to live for a year or so and went to somewhere nice and warm away from ontario say Mexico or Jamica or something.. If I just took a plane down there and then took off and said f*ck the return flight. If I just stayed there and chilled for a year or so takin it easy if I were to get caught by the cops or something and they deported me would they just send me back to here and it would just be the end of my little vacation or would I get in some serious **** for that? I've been thinking since I lost my car and I rent my townhouse anyways it would be kinda cool to live somewhere else for a while just to get away from it all and take like a year off the working world. I don't like my job here anyways and its not like I'm married or have anyhting I'm attached to here anyways. Mabey this is just morning still have 6 hours left of work talk but I was just wondering if it would be possible to get away with something like that or if I got caught would I get in serious **** and chucked in jail or something?

The brother of one of my friends just got back from living abroad for over a year. He went to Austrialia for a year, then traveled around Asia for a bit. Austrialia will give you a visa/permit for up to a year, and you can work legally. Its a one shot deal though from what I've heard, they only let you do it once. Asia, is a little more lax from what he has told me. He was more of a tourist there though, not really looking for work. He said in Borneo (sp?)for $10 a day you can live like a king. But, its not like Canada either.

I'd say go for it. Just do a little research first on the places you want to go. Some places may give you more hassles than others.

wrong direction

I think you might want to strongly re-consider any 'getaway' plan that has a reasonable probability of run ins with the local or foreign police not to mention immigration authorities.

Also, seems to me, from what I see/read/hear through the news, that many people who live in those places (Mexico, Jamaica, etc) are desperately trying to get into Canada or the US.

Take a long weekend. Treat yourself to a good time. Get over this notion.

my .02 cents worth,
RP.

Why Mexico, I would never want to vacation there. Maybe Jamaica, but stay near the resorts , I hear outside of them, it's not so "nice" of a place.

Re: wrong direction

As long as I don't do anything illegal while I'm there I shouldn't have to worry about run ins with the police. Jamica would be cool then I could just chill on de beach wid me rasta friends yeah mon smokin da ganga pass it to da left side mon Hehe that would be cool but yeah it would probably suck after a while and I wouldn't be "not doing anything illegal" then either and would probably end up getting myself deported within the first week.. I just can't stand this whole 9-6pm weekdays sit infront of a computer all day long 5 days a week same stupid chair same stupid room knowone to talk to except message boards on the internet.. ITS SOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING! I am really starting to hate this whole computer industry **** computers I want a career change and beach bum is lookin A OK

A few of my friends go to mexico quite often and have family/friends there. Jamica just sounds like it would be kinda fun and my one buddy has a lot of friends down there so I would at least have a bunch of people I could chill with while I'm down there.. I've never been to Jamica or Mexico myself but one thing I know is I don't like ontario all that much I *HATE* all this snow winter BS with a passion its the only reason why I want to get out of this ice cube of a country. I want summertime all year round.. Every year here in ontario I have such a blast in the summer best times of my life then winter just SUCKS HUGE..

I've only scratched the surface of the computer industry.. and already I find whenever I'm bored of something I move onto something new.

I worked as an IT tech for 3 years, worked as a performance analyzer in California for 8 months, mechanic "aid" for 4 months, now a programming teacher for the last 6 months.

You just have to find something you love, for me my work is in the PC industry. It's full of things to do...

Take a break, enjoy some time off and see places. I've been on a few road trips around the states and can say I had a blast. I've been to Japan, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.. still only a small taste of the world. I've got at least 15 more states I haven't been too and a few continents to visit.

When it comes down to it, I'm always glad I can come back home to Canada.

well with the global warming i suggest staying here another couple years and voila summer all year round, its not like we get any serious snow until Jan anyways (mississauga/toronto) and even in Jan it doesn't get that cold anymore...what about after a year when you wanna come back what do you do? get deported? cause i doubt you could just hop on a plane, and isn't there major fines? If you go to mexico or Jamaica and you don't show up for your return flight they contact the authorities and if they find you you could spend months in a jail cell in a foreign country where our laws ARE NOT THE SAME, anyways good luck and say hello to bubba (your cell mate) for us.

You won't get thrown in jail or anything, in Mexico anyway, for just taking an "extended vacation". Trust me, I lived in Mexico with a buddy of mine for 8 months while I was recovering and on extended medical leave when in the Army. Best way is not to schedule a round-trip flight anyway.

We ended up staying near Cancun. We were far enough away from Cancun to avoid it being so crowded and more expensive, but close enough to drive there when we wanted to party with company.

The REAL people of Mexico are great. It's the scumbags in the tourist cities that give the country a bad name, just like in the states.

And Mark...why not Mexico? Ever been? Most people who do go just see the crappy tourist part. The country itself is beautiful.

And it's CHEAP to live there...

Granted this was a few years ago, but I'd venture it's not much more expensive.

We rented a nice place for $125 a month. That INCLUDED a woman that came in every other day and did out laundry, cleaned a little etc.

I ended up buying an old Ford Pickup to beat around in...it was $250...UGLY, but not a spec of rust And it ran just fine....

The pace is LAID BACK....no deadlines, no boss to get in your face, no traffic...

Most days for us didn't BEGIN until 1pm or so... by 3pm we were usually toasted or buzzed or both. LONG siestas are a custom and should be practiced RELIGOUSLY

And Mexican women....hmmm....

You're only young once. Later there will be a wife, bills, mortgage, taxes, kids, sports, PTA blah blah....

enjoy it now...
Now if you're looking to have a more fast-paced break from life, try Bangkok INTERESTING PLACE....and cheap too. As is THAILAND.

Interesting idea...but I gotta believe it's not that easy. I'm sure you would get in crap at some level. I'm just guessing here though. Perhaps you can try it and let us know?

DO IT. 2 of my friends went to jamaica 2 winters ago, $5 bucks US gets you a handful (and them jamaicans got some biiiiig hands) of buddah! I would do jamaica over mexico by far though. Mexico is an alright country from what I gather, but its only cheap outside of the resorts where youll get everything from mugged to the ***** to herpes a mexicano style... Im sure you could get some permit visa crap or whatever to live there for awhile, why wouldnt a poorer country want long term tourist money?

I say if you are young and can do it....do it, but put a timeline on when you are going to return. Most place if you are under a certain age they will let you apply for a temp work visa and that sort of entitles you to staying there for your term, even if you have no intention of working. My sister did that a couple of years ago when she went to Australia, no problems and she roamed arround for about 8 months.

I say go for it because when you get older (not that I am really old or anything (26) you tend to get "locked down" with things such as work, g/f etc), so do it but just remember that you HAVE to come home at some point. Being a bumb for 2,4 or 6 months is cool but you dont want to be one of those guys looking back 5 years from from thinking you wasted the last 5 years of your life "just chilling".

Regardless, good luck!!!

Here's a thought...Australia! My brother-in-law went when he was younger. He lived there for a year. Worked as a bartender all over Australia and loved every moment. He got help from the Salvation Army. He performed various tasks, such as painting, lawn care and whatever odd job that needed to be done and in return they let him stay free of charge until he was able to get on his own. Besides they love Canadians down under. He said that he hardly ever paid for a drink when he went to the bars. As soon as they found out he was Canadian, the locals would come over and buy him drinks.
And another reason for Australia....TOPLESS BEACHES....Woohoo!
