Ignition problems.

I was reading up on some Ignition problems that people are having with their thirdgens.

most of these guys have the same problem starting their cars I do. or their driving and the car shuts off and the starts later on. and most of them said it was due to the ignition module.

what the hell does the ignition module look like?

http://www.tognottisautoworld.com/se...UCT_ID=MSD8500

check that link. is that what I'm looking for? is the black little box the module? the cylinder is the coil I'm guessing and the boxes?

and does anyone have any thirdgen engine bays with this kit installed in it.

write back.

-simon

Hey Simon : what year is your thirdgen ?

it should'nt matter as long as it's not like a 90 or something ............. this is what a module looks like

This is a Accel ignition module .......but the stock one looks the same ......it's under the dis-cap if your f-body is a older one

i hope this helps

Mark

P.S if you have a V6 ..... i might have one for ya !!

it's 1989

the 5.7 L98.

I thought it was under the cap. I'm going to check that out as soon as I have some time off. makes a bit more sense now.

thanks man.

Its a very simple swap to do, and I just grabbed on for my beater and it was less than $30 bucks for the part and 20 min to throw in, if I had to do it again it would probably only take me 5.

so I'm guessing if I went to crappy tire I could just ask them to see if they have a Accel or MSD coil in stock or can order it eh?

I also bought a wells cap and rotor so maybe I'll mess with that

Is it a coil....or Ignition Module that you need?

Regardless Crappy Tire will have both, although I never purchase my parts from there, I find they are way overpriced for things.

damn all this time it could have been just that little module.

argh! lol

I remember one time I went to East Sides with my girlfriend. we came out an hour later and the car started just fine. she wanted to go to the GAP in the same parking lot just across the plaza. we drove over and after about 20 minutes we came back and I tried to start the car and only dash lights would come on. engine wouldn't even crank. I left the hood open for say 5 minutes or so and she started back up just fine again and then ran for about a month until that day she died on the highway. everything shut off and I coasted to a stop.

after that I got the car running again for about 10 seconds until she died again. so I'm guessing it sparked and then just died because of the module failing again.

I doubt the module is at fault if it wouldn't even crank...

Although, I could very well be mistaken.

I don't know man I think it's the module. I've read up on pretty much everything now. like fuel pumps and related switch and relays and blah blah.

the fuelp pump initializes and we heard fuel going into the engine and then it ran back into the tank

the engine ran for 10 seconds once and then died again until now. where she doesn't crank at all because the battery died. I have an extra battery that's too big to fit but I'll use for testing puposes.

I'll install the module and a new cap and rotor I have. see what happens then I guess.

Ah, the battery was dead when it wouldn't crank. That there is useful info. lol

The rest of the symptoms do seem to point towards the module. Good luck.
