Got the itch for a 5-spd

I drove my brother's 1994 Celica the other day, and although it was pretty gutless, I had a lot of fun rowing through the gears. Since I'm going to be building my ROC to keep, I got to thinking, "350....with a 5 spd...mmmmmmmmm".

Any suggestions on where in Ontario (Ottawa) to get a hook up for parts on the cheap? There are a couple of complete 5-spd conversion package deals being offered in the thirdgen classifieds, but they're all south of the border and shipping will kill me (it cost $80 for a set of heads, + duty $82.00, let alone a transmission)

You thoughts, gentlemen?

If you like to take your car out and spank it much, you may want to steer clear of the 5-speed and go with a 6-speed. The torque put out by the 350, will break a t-5 in no time if you bang through the gears much.

Maybe we're telepathic; that idea just stuck me when I went to check my email :lala:

Now the next problem is to find a thirdgen that hasn't been beaten on or got tranny problems to use as a parts car

Beef up the t5 from front to back with alot of quality aftermarket goodies and I am positive you won't have any problems....

Looking for a parts car, hit the trader, buy&sell, newspapers, and internet. If you don't know what to watch out for, bring along someone who does.

What would I have to do to a T-5WC to make it hold up behind a 350? Also, what would I have to do to the ECU for this swap?

There's a dude in the classifieds looking to sell a complete conversion 'kit'; it's been there for a while....I'm interested, but want to know why nobody has jumped at it...any ideas?

I have a healthy T5 and bellhousing you can have for cheap. I think I have a shifter too. You'd still need a clutch, pedals, and hydraulics though but that's the easy stuff to get.

The site is www.g-forcetransmissions.com; the latest issue of Car Craft has a bunch of stuff on 5-spd swaps. Maybe I'm cheap, but the reinforcement kit looks bloody expensive considering what a rebuilt T-56 will set me back:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2461412851

I've seen 'em cheaper, but not remanufactured....TORQUE COVERTER, WHY MUST YOU MOCK ME!!!!! Sorry, I had an egg McMuffin this morning, and it's made me all crazy :lala:

A T5 will survive behind a mild 350.

Did you get my PM?

I'm going to be using a 700R4 that has a Transgo shift kit and a Vigilante 2600rpm converter. It's exactly what I was using in my GTA.

If you drive the car decently and don't abuse the T-5 will last just fine.

I've had fun with mine, but not overstressed it and it hasn't given me any problems yet. Mine's behind a 383.

You won't have to do anything to the computer if you change to a manual. I did the T56 swap and didn't touch it. no codes at all.

If you need some advice or assistance in going to a 6 speed, drop me a line. The worst part is sawing the hole in the floor!!

If he was originally an auto and he switches to a manual, I'm pretty sure the computer needs to be changed for one that had a manual in it.

Its the other way around. The only thing that would make a difference going manual is the idle RPM setting on the chip.
