does 16.3 seem right?

Iroc convertable (89) ,auto ,305tpi 250,000kms

the gtech says 16.3 the engine needs a full tune-up,eveything is stock on the car.

I disagree ...maybe a 15.8 -16.0

1989 305 TPI
.... mine was a 5 speed ...with 3.08 posi ...and 225'000 on the odometer ...an injector crapping out Maf issues .... bearing noise in the tranny .... smokes while I am on it , bad IAC .....


15.1 @93 ....maybe I got lucky ....but when she was reallllly screwed ..... steady 15.4's


... just tossing out what I did with mine ....thats all

The ragtops are pretty heavy. Not to mention it would have been a single cat car with the 2.75" exhaust and probably a 2.73 rear end. I think one in need of a tune up would have no problem running a blistering 16.3.

I've always wondered how some of these cars got ordered with oddball performance options.

Penut cam in the auto aswell I asume, your manual should not have the dog cam.

I believe the majority of convertibles were sold as cruisers, not pavement shredders. SO when these cars were new high 15's low 16's were respectable. One other issue with the convertibles was cost. They commanded quite a premium over the coupes and T top cars so I guess if it was a dealer ordered car they loaded up on the options and kept the performance goodies to a minimum. The 5 speed cars were ordered by those in the know I guess. Were the '89's rated at 190hp? I wonder what my '90 will run. Probably close to that considering it has high miliage but it does have 20 more hp.....
