checking out headers
I've been doing some research and it looks like headers with high flow cats (I've got the dual setup) and a Flowmaster with 3 inch throughout has a pretty high ROI (return on investment) in terms of HP. It will sound REALLY COOL too.
Don't think I'll gain much torque (not sure I want to given the weak T5) but should open up the engine from 230hp to about 260hp according to my dyno.
Anyone done headers recently ? Any suggestions on manufacturer ? Anyone know who does coating (heat treating) in the S. ON region ?
thx in advance,
RP.

I have owned both SLP and Edelbrock headers. All I can say is........SLP, SLP, SLP, SLP. When I received my Edelbrock's from Summit I opened them........and then I closed them and sold them. Neither brand are exactly perfect but the SLP's are definately better quality. Now for the clincher...........you can get the SLP's from Zeke's in Montreal for the same prices SLP charges. When SLP has an internet sale, Zeke's honours the prices. You don't have to pay big shipping charges, brokerage fee's or any of that nonsense. As for coating's, I have no idea other than SLP sells the headers pre-coated now. As for the converters, if yours are still healthy don't change them. The HP/$ return is horrible on converter swaps. If you do want to change them try to find a used set of cats from a 1996-1999? Vortec 1/2 ton. They outflow most aftermarket cats. Once again, just my 2 cents.

I've had Dynomax headers on my car for a few years now. I started having weird exhaust leaks a while back (you could hear 'em). When I did some engine work recently I checked out the headers and some of the tubes had become unwelded to the collector. I ordered a set of SLP's coated headers. You can really tell the diference in craftsmanship. I'll second Acceld's vote for SLP.

SLP is ok by me
Thx for the info.
I just got off the phone with Rudy Helds shop. They want $650 for a set of Edelbrocks with dual cats. OUCH ! Then they want another $500-600 to put them in. OOUUUUUCH !
If I'm going to pay that kind of coin I better move upscale with SLP units ?

I chose the headers without A.I.R. tubes. Zeke's can be reached at (514) 364-2971. They have been around for a while, they did the LT4's in the Camaro SS's and Firehawk's for SLP. They also have a chassis dyno setup that is unreal. I wound up paying $570 Canadian for my SLP 1 3/4 inch dual cat headers in August of 2000. Palric, installing the headers is'nt that tough of a job. You will need to have the y-pipe welded though.

did you have to do any mods to your computer to run right or can you just bolt them on and go?. also have you gone for an e test and if so did they notice that the smog us disabled?
Aha..... don't go all the way to Quebec to get SLP!!! Ther is a dealer in Stoney Creek Area. I have the number here somewhere.. if you want it, let me know, I'll dig it up.
The Flowmaster muffler is loud, be forewarned. I went with it, and I have single cat with no headers, and it is loud, its a nice loud.. but still loud. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.

My question is this -- does your non-AIR SLP headers have an O2 sensor ?
thx,

I can look into a GP for you guys if you want as I too would like a set of SLP's. I've got a couple contacts that are local. The advantage to local rather than Zeke's is it will save cost on shipping....Do you want me to make a couple calls?

The deals at the local authorized dealer's would be no different than Zeke's. Plus add on the cost of shipping...at least a local shop you could just go pick it up yourself for a couple bucks in gas.

Here's a link to a scan of my receipt from Zeke's. I received an e-mail expressing doubt about the price I paid for the headers. I hope this puts any further doubts to rest. I still can't believe how much I paid for the "install kit"

If the link does not work please let me know.

the link does not work... somehting about not hosting links from other pages
I got a price from Parts Connection... $795.00 and $150.00 for the installation kit. I will be ordering these in the future.... if anyone else is interested, maybe we can get a deal.... Oh... wait.. that is for the non-coated headers, coated will probably run you 1100 bux.
