Body work!

Hey I went to macco not long ago..
actually the day I was telling u about that I was gonna sell it.
Anyways, Maaco said $1500 to fix everything and to replace this and that.. and paint bla bla bla.. not bad deal for the work needed. BUt, looks like me and my friend are gonna do it!
NOW, the problem is he says that black shows the most if u do ur own body work, so people prefer the white colour to hide it..
so should I just get my car repainted white or whAT?
I mean not until like later later later on

Well, what all needs to be worked on?!? Is it all body work or are we talking mechanical stuff too?!? $1500 seems pretty high for a Maaco job.

Changing the colour of a car is a lot of work...changing a colour from black to white, a direct contrast, is probably more work than you want. Just my 2 cents buddy. Of course white cars are the best!

I'm changing mine!

Although the color change is a lot of work I am doing it in the spring/summer. Mine is going artic white.... I thought about Viper Blue but I think white is the best color!!

My paint guy said he will do my car for $1200.00 .. he did a color change for me in the past (green to white) and it came out awesome! The only thing I am going to have to do is paint the engine bay black... well one side is black now anyway (previous owner munched the drivers side front fender), so I will just extend the black through the full engine bay.

I will post pics when I get it back.

well, your buddy is right about the black showing every bad spot of body work. What exactly has to be done to the car? Are you going to be bringing it to shows? If you are bringing it to shows, then no matter what colour you paint it, people are going to know, me and my buddy are a couple of those people, we notice every wave and orangpeel in paint. Which is probably why I would have to spend good money to get body work done on mine.

If you just want it to look nice, whites the way to go, no one will notice bad bodywork from a quick glance.

I am saying "bad bodywork" because it doesn't seem like you have much confidence in your own work, heck I know I don't.. LOL If I were you, I would hold off and save for a primo paint job.

Can you tell me what the major repairs are on your car?

yeah pictures would help... patching is the worst.. and working with other peoples work can be a nightmare. My suggestion is to do some panel replacement yourself... or, if the bondo that is on it is in ok shape, then simply sand and paint it. As for the rust... I suggest sand blasting the bottoms of the doors, and if you can get a smaller sand blaster with low pressure, grind down the rust around the mirrors and door handles, then lightly sand blast them. Sand blasting prevents the rust from coming back. Also, where you rid of rust, you must seal it. Body work is time consuming and requires lots of patience

If you are a rookie... I would just save your money and get it done professionally, and leave it black, cause black is sweet when its nice and clean. Where abouts are ya located?

Hey dave... I'll come there and check out your car, but as for my GTA, it is hibernating right now Sounds like you got a hook up for a paint job dood.

As for the gold, I agree, lose it, I think lose the gold on the rims as well. But, get them polished, I know a place that'll do them.

IMHO -- I'll bet a decent repaint of the original color will come out even better.

Well I agree that a repair of the old paint would probably be easierI want to change the color to white...I think white is a nicer color... IMHO. It is easier to keep clean, you don't see swirls and scratches as much, it looks classier, and tinting looks much better...

All of this is IMHO of course... and I am sure all the white Camaro owners in here will agree with me and all the non-white owners will not..hehe

Hey, although black is a PITA to keep clean and looking good, it still awesome. When you keep that paint in great shape, people notice and it's all worth while. White is easy to keep clean, but I still found myself cleaning it just as often as the black, because it still loses shine.

Hey man, do yourself a favour and leave the body work to a good shop, trust me man its way worth it, because if you dont have much experience doing it in the past you will probably find it really frustrating and it will take you a long time.

If you want to try and keep costs down, ask whatever shop you go to if they will cut you a deal if you remove all the trim lights etc. The end result will be a much better product (no overspray because everything will be gone) and you will be much happier in the long run. Trust me man dont touch it no matter how much of a good idea it seems at the time, leave it to a good shop, it will be more than worth it and done in like one tenth of the time!
