need help bad

Well I have been trying to get my 83 to start for the last couple days. I got a Painless harness on it for 90-92 TPI.

I pulled a spark plug while it was cranking and it sparked.

I smelled fuel on the plug so I got fuel.

I know the wires are on the distributor correctly.

I am looking at the position of the valves and it seems to me that the rotor is pointing at the proper cylinder in the firing sequence.

the only thing I can think of is that the valves are too tight. but I didn't think I put them very tight at all. Does anyone have an ideas to shoot at me? any help is very well appreciated. Sorry for any information I forgot to tell but please ask any questions. thanks

the fuel pressure holds pretty steady at around 50 when cranking.

heres what i did verify compression with a tester and adjust your valves accordingly around 120 psi youll know if your not building compression cause it will sound funny when turning over good luck guy

I was just wondering how does the ECM know when to fire the injectors? Does it get some sort of feedback from the distributor? I am not getting enough putting to believe anything is really happeneing. I am getting spark becuase I pulled a plug and had my friend crank the motor and it sparked and it smelled like fuel. Is it at all possible for only a couple injectors to fire?

Also when I first turn the key forward and the pump primes the pressure goes up to 50 and then I hear the relay click and the pump shuts off then the pressure drops to 25 is this normal?

I was so eager to go fuel injection now Iw ish I just bolted on a carb. There are so many variables. thanks for any help guys

You messed up one thing and now you want a carb?? Maybe you should if you have that attitude.

Anyhow, maybe you set your distrubuter in incorrectly. check the timing. don't they make a small light that can allow you to see if the inj. are firing??

The distributor could be out 180 degrees. To check, turn engine over until rotor points at #1 spark tower on cap & the timing mark is @ 0 degrees on the balancer. Remove valve cover & make sure both intake & exhaust valves are closed (rockers up) If not the distributor is installed wrong.

dont screw yourself buddy pull #1 plug ans stuff a tissue in it. crank the starter with the cap off and disconnetcted when the tissue pops out your on comp stroke. take a breaker bar and turn the crank clockwise till you get close to the timing tab check the position of the rotor in regards to the number terminal if your anywhere close your ok and firuther adjustments may be made by turning the cap sounds like everythin is functionioning properly dont be afraid if you have any further questions :lala:
