Heads on a budget

I'm wanting to look into porting and polishing my heads and also doing a valve job. However, I've never done this and am kind of a slow learner at some of this stuff. So I was thinking of swapping the heads out so I can still drive the car while doing this. My questions are what are some decent budget heads out there? From searching the boards Worlds S/R Tourqers or aluminum vette L98s seem to be the top choices. What specs am I looking for exactly? I've seen various numbers thrown around but not sure what all of them mean. What size cc combustion chamber am I looking for? and lastly, what are good valve sizes? Thanks again guys!

What engine are you running, a 305?

If you're running a 305 those are bout your only respectable choicces

With the 305 having a small bore the valve size becomes an issue because of how close the valve can be to the cylinder wall. If its a 350 your choices are unlimited but i personally am a fan of the aluminum L98's, as recently brought up in another post that people often overlook is the S/R torquers are "STOCK REPLACEMENT" dont expect much from them..

If you have access to the L98's go for them.

As far as porting, have fun, it takes a looooooooong time and can get annoying quick

Aluminum is 99999999x easier/funner to port, cast is just a beeeyatch

Yeah the Heads will bolt up, But the 64cc COmbustion chamber compared to the 305's 58cc Chamber will Kill your compression. Not a good idea.

the Aluminum L98 heads have a 58Cc Chamber, wich will retain compression.

However, The general Rule with aluminum heads is you need 1 point more compression to make comperable power to Cast heads with identical flow charactoristics,

Aluminum also can Tolerate approximate 1 more point compression than Cast With similar conditions before detonation, So it kinda works out.

Either way, Just bolting the L98 heads on, cast or ally, is not exactly ideal.
