2000 Ram air t/a

Ok theres this really cocky guy i go to school with. His mommy and daddy bought him a ram air t/a. To him this car is the fastest thing on the face fof the earth. Is it possible to get my 86 tpi 305 t/a to outrun him. Im going to do it if it kills me. I've allready go headers on the way i'm looking for a cam and i'm fixing to take out a loan for a set of afr 190s. I need to establish some credit anyway. I'm trying to talk my dad into a stealth ram but it's kinda hard. ANy other sugestions. I'll do whatever it takes to make a car that i don't even have a quarter of the money in to beat his 30k ride.

You are probably gonna need some sort of power adder as Roc said and the cheapest way to go would be to juice that sucker.

Heck, I've got a brand new NOS Super PowerShot system and TPI plate (the plate is used) I'd sell for 500.00 out the door. The system is 426.00 from Jegs and the plate is like 220.00. Save 120.00.

That would make him whine.

I dont think he'd whine too loud. Figure his 305's probably a high 15 second ride and the dudes Trans Am's a high 12/low 13 second car. There aint no nitrous system gonna knock 3 seconds off his time

Now if it was me I'd yank the 305 for a mild 406 which if geared right will put you in the low 13's yourself then with a 75 shot Goodbye LS1

Real brilliant of me I own a LS1 and I'm telling people how to beat me

lol, Got yourself there didn't ya dano. I have to agree alot of money will have to be spent (well, depending on what you consider alot of money). Either the 305 with some sort of power adder or a 406 with a nice cam and heads setup.

A 350/383 could do it.

406 would just do it really well

Well, you say this is some cocky spoiled kid, and from my experience, it's the cocky spoiled kids can't drive....so although his car should be a low 13 second, he probably can't run but a high 13. So with that in mind....I'd do all the free mods, put in K&N filters and an exaust so your car can breathe, put on a 150 shot of nitrous, and an AFPR. I think that will be enough to beat him....i think nitrous takes a second to a second and a half off et. in cars like ours.

Starting with a base of about 190hp, and trying to make it compete with a car that has a base of 345 hp is silly.. A 125 shot might keep up with him, til mommy buys him that. Then what will ya do?

A friend of mine has run a few high 12-sec passes with a Pro-Charged '88 305 IROC. Hopefully he'll speak up, not sure what other mods are done. It's a 5-speed car too, not automagic.

Have a deep pocket? You're gonna need one. To beat that car you're going to need to build up a 350 or a 383 or even a 400. Forget the 305, for what you're trying to do its as useful as a boat anchor. Do like i'm doing with my vette....throw an LT4 hot cam (or a big turbo cam with a lot of LSA), some AFR 195 heads, and a superram intake and of course a full exhaust and couple it with a 383 shortblock with 10+:1 compression. That should be good for 450+HP. Of course california emissions laws are kind of guiding this build-up of mine so if you don't have to worry about that BS and you don't really care about driveability/gas mileage, you can throw a carb on it and an even bigger cam. Of course you're 700r4 won't last too long so you figure to blow a bunch more money on a built race transmission. Continuing down the driveline, if you have a 10-bolt, start saving money for a stronger rear-end because that won't last long either. If you were blessed with a 9-bolt, you can breath a little easier. And then of course all this power ain't much fun if its not getting to the pavement so you'll need to upgrade your suspension and put some meaty tires back there too.

Well i haev an old truck at my dads with a 350 4 bolt in it. Think i should go with a 383. Is it hard to break into the 12s with a 383.

a nice ATI intercooled supercharger will put you closer into his league. thats only about a 10% of his 30k trans am. If you want to build a 383, Its gonna be sorta hard to break into the 12's with the LTR setup. Its not impossible but the LTR will definetely make it a handi-cap without doing the free mods, like siamesing the intake and such.

305 monster

hey dude!!, boy do you have a problem.. belive me your not the only one!! theres a guy here that i plan on waxing when my 383 is finished... like the dudes said above you'll nedd 1: good breathing on exhaust and intake 2: gears will make just as big of a deal as nitrous, slap some richmond 373's in. 3: nos 4: some rear suspension parts, and i'd slap in a cam... that ought to easily take care of a punk that can't drive.... and if he can, it will stay with him... your's is easy.. i'm going against a dude with 125hp nitrous, 4:11 gears, and all the bolton's. see pic below..

good luck and let me know how it goes...
