Help with new motor. Please!!

I just rebuilt it and have aluminum heads and new cam stock TPI intake and injectors. It runs really hot. Cant even touch the strut tower brace or the spark plug wires, should it be this hot. It runs pretty good a little rough but good.
Thanks, Gary

Go back and re-check your initial spark timing, with the EST connector disconnected. Retarded spark will blow unburnt fuel out the exhaust ports, generating more heat at the manifolds/headers.

You didn't mention what the temp gauge was reading...

Pardon? Aluminum has greater thermal efficency than cast iron, which is why you can run higher compression on pump gas with alum heads. Also why they use it in radiators.

The timing is right I just didnt know if it should run that hot. The temp gauge is normal most of the time, when i am not stuck in traffic. I thought it might be the heads but wasnt sure i know i might be running a little lean but i have no clue as to why. I just had it smogged tested without the smog pump or AIR tube hooked up and it passed so i think there is definately something wrong somewhere.
Thanks, gary

Wow.. aluminum heads are thermally inefficient, huh?
