anyone wanna help me pick a cam?
my setup is...
355
9.5:1 CR
world products heads with 2.02/1.60 valves and 170cc intake runners
holley stealth ram
new 700r4 with 2800 stall
3.73 rear
let me know if i left out anything important..
it needs to be streetable and will also be backed up by a 150 shot of nitrous once in a while
Ill be tuning this as setup as soon as i learn how to, i just got the equipment. Right now im kinda leaning towards the LT4 hotcam. but im open for suggestions, im probably not gonna do the swap for a few more months
let me know what you guys think.
thanks

That hotcam certainly can't be a bad choice. Here's what I'd do, choose the cam around the torque converter and gear if you already have them. What converter is it? That will help us nail the cam.
An '86Z here in SLC with a 350, Fastburn heads, hotcam, Holley Commander 950 and 9 pounds of ATI intercooled boost just dynoed 560 hp at the WHEELS!:hail:

Im not sure what kind of converter it is, but my trans guy(freind of my family) said it is a high density converter or something. sorry i really know nothing about transmissions or converters. when i put my foot on the brake and gas at the line at the track it will stall up to 2600 tho. what is the hotcam's powerband?

I asked the same question over at ChevyTalk.com & Doug Flynn from Holley recomended a cam very close to the one I have, a Comp Extreme Energy XR276HR, in fact he felt it would work very well.

The carbed setups with Vortec heads and the hotcam peak as high as 6k, don't they? (only 80% sure on that one) You might as well be the sacrificial lamb for the Stealth/hotcam setup man. Then when you get it all tuned and dynoed, you can always throw out that converter and get a custom built Yank or Vigilante that'll get you another 3 tenths with full traction.

When I was going to build a TPI'd 355, my engine builder called CompCams and ordered a cam which is now in my carbed 355 (DON'T ASK). It is a 262 grind....214/224 duration and .480/.480 lift, 112* LSA. It was supposed to run really well with a TPI setup and stock PROM. I didn't do the swap because I had a lot of electrical problems. I would definitely recommend that cam for you, though.
