What to use to clean the IAC?
I'm wondering what is the best thing to use to clean the IAC? I'm having idle and stalling problems and want to rule out the IAC first.
Thanks

Just did mine the other day. I took the pintle and spring out and soaked it in little "Simple Green" and with minor brushing, it cleaned them up. Point being. Even 409 or something cleans that carbon off good. They say not to use anything strong.
If carb cleaner is ok, then what is considered to be too strong? Why are strong solvents bad? Is there something they might wash away? Do you have to take the IAC apart to clean it, or can the cleaner just be sprayed into the air intake? Thanks.

You really need to take the IAC out to clean it, then clean the bore it sits in, paying attention to the seat where the pintal sits in. I have used Valvoline syntech throttlebody and carb cleaner on mine and it does a real good job of breaking up and washing away all of the carbon deposits.

All of the above by Morley AND make sure you properly adjust the IAC after you've re-installed it. Follow the instructions for resetting the IAC as per the Tech Archives. It is quite simple and easy to follow.
For most basically stock engines, this should fixer up. Modified motors sometimes need to be "tinkered with" between the IAC setting and the eprom.
If it still has problems, then you have something else. But the IAC is probably the most common problem. Do the simple stuff first.
