please help me with heads

I have a 89 IROC 350 with a blown head gasket. I already have the heads pulled off and I was going to send them to get a valve job. I've been planing to rebuild/build up my motor in a year.

I'm reconsidering getting better heads with some headers now, then upgrade the cam and intake next year.

So my question is which heads should I get for $1100. I also need to know which heads with work with my stock-everything else, plus be good when I swap the cam.

Thanks

Well it all depends on how much you plan on doing in the future. If you plan on doing some major cam/intake upgrades, wait and get some AFRs. The problem with getting them now is that it will run like crap, with everything else being stock, major mis-match in parts. If you want to get some good performance now, and have potential for a little more, I'd get some aluminum vette heads ported and throw those on there. Hope this helps.

I concur with the ported vette heads. I'm putting some on my car tonight as a matter of fact.

www.lingenfelter.com for ported vette heads (NOT CHEAP)

You could probably realize some performance gains for the same money by adding headers, cat back, air intake, lower intake, runners, etc & just clean up the stock heads.

Do a search-there are several options out there for $1100.

WARNING: modifying these cars is addicting. Reading this forum is hazzardous to your wallet.

Mine started as a 350 TPI automatic-so I know.

bbunting is right, these cars are addictive. I bought my car for 1800, and I've put about $2000 into it so far and I still have a long long way to go. I can't wait till I get out of college and can spend some real money on my car...

I disagree, Some AFR 190's or 195's out of the box should work great on a Stock TPI. Of course they wont be fully utilized, But they should perform just fine.
