Cam for a 305/5 speed.
Cam for a 305/5 speed.
I know this topic has been beat to death and Ive gone thru and read most the posts on it. I havent however found a cam specifically for what I want. like I said its a 1990 Formula 305 TPI w/ 5 speed and the 3.42 rear. would the LT1 cam still be a good choice? I want to make a good amount of power over stock, but w/o fraggin the tranny anytime soon as its a brand new one. The engine right now is being rebuilt. I was gonna leave it all stock except for hypereutectic or forged pistons and the cam. If the money allows it I will port the heads to. This car is for a daily driver/mild strip use and auto-X. reason for not going all out on the engine right now is Im in the middle of buidling a 355 and then going to wait for a t-56 to swpa in all at teh same time.
Thanks

If your LB9 has the L98 cam (factory) then the Lt1 cam is a waste of time IMO -- not enough increase in duration and lift to justify the effort.
Better off with something from Lingenfelter or Comp Cams, around 210-214 intake duration and .500 lift. Get ready for other expenses though -- springs, rockers, new chip, etc...

I am using the ZZ-4 cam in my 305 and it works well. The bottom end is still very strong and the top end improvement is impressive.
