started motor for 2nd time...
running rich like everyone else! lol
the first time there was a huge vacuum leak where the cold startinjector went into the runner, but i fixed it, and i can't hear any hissing any more and i finally got it togethor and sort of running, couple problems
- lopey, bad idle
- number 3 and number 7 header primaries turn bright red
- really poor throttle response
the headers are gettin hot from timing pretty sure but i can't get it to idle in order to set it right
mods in sig

Check your timing. It should be at 6 degrees BTDC. If the timing's right on, you may have a problem in your CAT (probably clogged)

vacuum leaks will cause the engine to surge and then to die down, I don't think you have a vacuum leak. From what you have described, it sounds like a timing problem, and since your cat is brand new, that rules out that possibility. I'm willing to put money on your timing being off. Keep us posted!
i will, one more thing i forgot to mention, under 2000 rpm the engine starts to bog down, ill see what happens after i set the timing right, but could this be an injector stuck open or ssomething, or hopefully simpler and less expensive?
update
tonight i set the timing and the headers don't glow anymore, i also fixed the remaining vacuum leaks i found.
I ran till operating temperature, then got the codes, i got 45 which was obvious because it is running so rich my eyes hurt.
i started to diagnose it and i got as far as being able to say its not the ecm, now i have to diagnose the fuel system
anybody have an experience like this before? if so, what did you do?

where was your timing set? Have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it yet? To keep it cheap, I would remove the O2 sensor and clean it, or replace it, they are only about $20. Have you reset the ECM since you reset the timing?

i set it at 6* BTDC yes i disconnected the pos bat cable after. Then i ran it for about 10 minutes idling sometimes part throttle other times. checked codes and got code 45, pretty obvious, no i haven't checked fuel pressure yet.
today i plan on getting new air filter, checking charcoal canister, checking fuel injection system with the haynes manual, check tps, replace o2 sensor (its really old anyways) and check maf
ill post results possibly later tonight
