vette head questions?
i was lookin at heads on ebay and i found these aluminum vette heads...i was previously planning to get world torquer heads...but i realized that these heads are exactly the same as the world heads and are even aluminum...would i be better off with some old vette heads and rebuild them? thanks
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2414386316
the casting number ia 10088113 ...does anyone know if they have the egr passages, etc...cuz the head assembly from gm which apparently are built on these same castings are 12556463 and it says there are no egr passages...how were these on production corvettes then?
oh, i and im lookin to put them on a 305, will work? thanks

I've got a ZZ4 which supposedly has the same aluminum vette heads. They don't have EGR passages. THe vette's used a different Base manifold on the TPI that had a port to attach a pipe that went from the manifold to the #8 exhaust tube. You can order the pipe from TPIS if you have an intake that has the port. My superram base has the port on it. I've still got to install my tube but it's going to be a pain since I have to remove the header to weld the bung on. I know some one else here has pic's. Do a search for ZZ4 heads and EGR. You'll probably find it.

ok, so if i was using an aftermarket base that had the external egr provision and i had the external tube, etc...do the vette heads have the external egr hookup? or will u have to hook it up to the headers or something...also, i heard the heads will boost ur compression...will these cause problems/make much difference? and ive also heard on a 305, if u use above a certain lift, ull experience some vavle-cylinder head collision...this all sounds like a huge pain in the ***, anyone have these heads o na 305? would i be better off buyin world cast iron heads? thanks
ok, yeah i figured out u have to route egr to header...

IROCZ88x,
I am assuming that you have original 88 305 TPI heads now, (081 castings)? These vette heads will not boost your compression, as 305 TPI heads have 58cc chambers as well. For what the bidding is at on those at this point, you could port, polish, put bigger intake valves and get screw in studs in your existing heads and most likely have similar or better results for a bit less money and not have to deal with the egr issue.
Just my thoughts!

z ghost can you post some more detailed pic's of your tube intall. I've still got to do mine. I bought the kit from tpis with the flange on one end and a bung I have to weld and this weird crimp ring to hold the tube to the bung. I've got slp headers and I have to figure out what to do with the air tube from that header. I was just thinking of cutting the tube high and attaching the bung to it. It's just going to be a major pain since the engine is in the car. I've heard getting those headers on and off in the car sucks. I put mine on before I put the engine in. Although that made it fun.

Wow $455! That's WAY too much. I picked mine up for $350.00 shipped to me and that was from our very own classifieds.
You got to love this site :hail:
Cost me another $350.00 for port work and parts. Essentially making them into ZZ4 heads. LT4 hot cam kit, etc...
So basically I am out like $700.00 for totally tricked out AL heads, that will be close to Lingenfelters standards for about $1200.00 less than they sell them for and about $600.00 less than AFR 180's or $900+ less than 190's. However, these will flow easily with the 180's and may match wits with stock 190's, but you don't need AFR's for a 305 anyway.
Since I am basically building the LPE super ram 383 with a more agressive cam, these heads should be no problem. I am expecting 400hp, and really am happy with that.
For a 305 they are great, you can get great flow, save 50lbs, and you wont change your compression. Here is the best part, AL heads can take about .85 more compression compared to iron heads on the same octane fuel without detonation. IE if you can run 91 octane at 9.5 on iron heads you should be able to run 10.35, which means more power. Good stuff.
Good luck
