Wells MAF Code 36

I tried doing a search for this but I couldn't find an answer that really satisfied me. I have recently installed a Wells SU145 MAF sensor on my 89 GTA. Now, I am pulling a code 36. Now I know that the Wells unit does not use the burn off feature like the Bosch ones do. So, my question is that will the code 36 affect anything besides the fact that it creates the little annoying light in my gauge cluster? How can I fix this? (and no, I don't burn my own eproms so I can't change it that way)
Thanx.

I thought the Wells MAF was supposed to have circuitry that emulated the burn off function to prevent this code from being set. You may have a bumm MAF.

I believe a faulty relay will still throw a 36 even with the Wells. Have you tried swapping the relay?

No, i haven't tried swapping relays. The relay worked fine with my Bosch maf. But, would it really matter if the relay was malfunctioning with the Wells unit since there is no burn off???

Does the ECM know it???? It will still throw codes from a faulty sensor. It happened with my Wells Maf.

What I'm trying to say is will it affect drivability and performance?

That is a good question, the ECM may go into a routine where it ignores the MAF since it thinks it is malfunctioning, in that case it will affect drivability. But I don't know if it will ignore the MAF when that code is present.
