what valve seals where??
ok i have 16 o rings 8 valve stem seals that are circular with two metal bands around them and 16 umbrella seals. now what valve seals go on the intake and witch go on the exhaust? i think that all 16 get o rings but what about the others, is it 8 circles with metal on intake and 8 umbrellas on exhaust, or all umbrellas????
please help me.(and do the umbrellas get installed with the umbrella facing down or up) by the way the seals are carquest victors they look like rubber stuff. any one know.
Thanks

soo....
why did they give me 16 umbrellas in a bag then. were they originally intended for all of the valves? and the circle stem seals with metal wraps are just better quality for the intake compared to the umbrellas. do i have the correct understanding of things?
also the umbellas on the exhaust...i am under the impreesion that the exhaust valves originally never has seals but its a good idea to put them on, thats why i am . so where do they go, u just have to take off the spring and junk and place it facing down on the valve seat or something? let me know if this sounds right its the first time im doing this.
thanks

not putting seals on the exhaust valves allows a little better valve guide lubrication, but does allow some oil seepage into the combustion chamber after you shut down your motor, causing a puff of smoke when you start your car (not always, but generally). The ones with the metal bands are a positive type and should be used if your heads are machined to accept them. I have Viton positive type on my intake valves and umbrellas on my exhaust.

Stock heads accept umbrella style seals from the factory, which is what you would have to use. It's not neccessarily a bad thing though. Positive type seals can restrict oil flow to the valve guides, increasing wear. I only use them because of the increased cylinder pressure the seals will see with my upcoming turbo setup. I doubt you would notice a difference with either seal. When you install them, just think of how an umbrella works, and that's how you install them.

yes, o ring all valves and push the umbrellas all the way down till they stop. If you look close, they have to be all the way down or the spring retainer will just push it down when it is compressed. That is why you need machine work to install positive type, they are a little taller, and wouldn't give if the spring pressed against it.
