what cam???
ive decided for my 85 T/A i am going to use iron vortec heads, the vortec manifold base, possiblly aftermarket runners with my stock plenum ported, stock throttle body with an airfoil, a adjustable fuel press. regulator, an aftermarket chip, 3" Flowmaster cat back, and shorty headers... i was wondering if anyone could reccommend which cam i should use, i would like to stay with roller valve train...
CompCams computer controlled TPI cam?
Lingenfelter L98 cam?
ZZ4 cam?
LT1 hot cam?
Custom grind??? what duration and lift???
(the car has 4.10 gears and a 2500 stall converter)

the 211/219 lingenfelter cam would work great, but you would have to change the springs on the heads.
.499/.525 with 1.5 rockers
211/219 @.050
clc-112
icl-108
great camshaft for NA tuned ports. I have one if you are interested. used on dyno. I changed the engine to boosted.

I forgot, instead of the vortecs why don't you look at the edelbrock performer centerbolt heads. buy the time you bought the vortec heads and tpi base you could have these and they are much better. The edelbrock heads on a 350 with the 211/219
cam, 10:1 comp. makes 300-325 to the wheels.

performer heads
thanks for the advice, the lingenfelter cam does look like a good choice with decent lift and short duration, and as far as the performer heads go i understand what u mean about them being the same cost as the vortecs and the vortec manifold, but if i run the performer center bolts, is my stock intake base gonna flow enough or will it really restrict it??? i plan on runnning my stock runners and stock plenum ported (possibly upgrading to edelbrock or accel later on), with the stock throttle body with a TPIS airfoil, and i'll have an adjustable fuel press. regulator.
any help will help alot...thanks

You can put the biggest manifold on but it still will only flow as good as what is feeding it. The runners and manifold need to work together. I have built this combo a few times for people and it is a great street engine for a 350. You doing this to a 305 will not need as much flow as the 350. If you only have limited funds now but plan on making changes down the road don't buy parts twice! The vortec heads are a good for stock to a little more. Just my opinion. The edelbrocks can be bought for 1,000.00 and bolt on tomorrow.
Just my $.02
Hope this helps.

tpi build up
thanks for your incite, and advice, i appreciate it.
my car does have a 5 liter now, as listed in my name, but my build up will be done with a 350. i am using a 350 short block with probably 10:1 pistons. i am aware that i have to step up the size of the injectors from the little 19lb/hrs, but what size would you reccommend?? 22lb/hr?, bigger?
i see what u mean by building it right the first time, and i am pretty sure that i'll get the edelbrock heads instead of the vortecs, and use the lingenfelter 211/219 cam, hopefully this will provide a strong foundation for my T/A, as i hope to get involved in some drag racing this coming spiring. my goal is to eventually stay with, or beat my uncle's 1968 GTO thats been restored from the ground up with a 400/4speed(right now he runs a 12.9-13.2 naturally aspirated on slicks)
any thing else that you think will help me with my build up or car in general would be greatly appreciated,
thanks for the great tips!

I wouldn't put the same parts on a 305 that I would on a 350. They are 2 different engines w/ different needs. That's like putting a 350's parts on a 400. I like to try and get the most I can out of a motor. A 350 is going to laugh at a cam w/ 211/219*. I say, save up and buy the right parts once.

choices, choices, choices....
the edelbrock heads and the lingenfelter cam definitely sound like a good plan, thanks for the pointer, thats the way i am going to go...i will let you know how it works out probably late spring when i get it built. 325 at the wheels sounds great, i can only imagine the torque output the car would have, i cant wait to drive my Trans Am with a breath of new life in it...
civics, integras, and 350Zs beware!!!
