raising peak hp, TPI??

the runners are the most restrictive parton my TP system correct.

over the christams break i pln on otrdering some SLP runner and a dremel. pulling my TPI intake off my car and installing the runners, hooker 2055's and a holley AFPR.

will that give me 20rwhp? and raise my peak HP

I'm pretty sure between just the headers and holley AFPR that you can get 20hp if you tune the fuel pressure and timing.

The base is also very restrictive but the siamese in the SLP runners will raise the tuning RPM point higher in the band so you may see more horsepower.

my SLP runners (ordered couple months ago) were TERRIBLE castings with flash and stuff all over. plus the flow area might even be smaller than the stock tubes.

definately look at another company if you do not want to spend a LONG time porting SLP's crap.

I don't want to spend a fortune on the base/runners either. I am going with the edelbrock base/runners from summit for $690. I am going to port match the plenum to the runners and port the plenum.

ASM runners are $395 and SLP runners are $259

i was thinking abot getting the SLP's and having them ported but then that will most likly put me over the $500 mark just for runners. if i get the ASm and an edelbrock base thatmight be better.

Doing any effective porting with Dremel will take you FOREVER. Consider taking them somewhere that has an air compresser and spend the money on a die grinder and a couple cutters and you will save a lot of time.

That sucks. For $250 they could at least make them fit.

Like I said just get the Edelbrock Base/Runner combo. You will save some $$$ and everything will fit right out of the box. Any runners you buy will be an improvement over stock

I am realy impressed with RPM my stock TPI base is capable of after siamesing it 2.5". I have a Hotcam, ported stock heads, Hooker long tubes, and it pulls to 6500RPM like mad. This is with stock runners too. I was surprised how well it runs on top. It took about 8hrs of porting and about the same to remove and reinstall, but it's free and I think it would help you gain some power.

Insomniac- is your siamese base like the one I saw someone else do here on the forum? You kept the stock runner config?

I am planning on mod'ing my TPI soon. I saw the pics of a siamesed base and think its a good idea. I was thinking about completely siamesing the runners too, and the usual port/siamese of the plenum. Im not too worried about the loss of torq since I have a procharger @10lbs that added TONS of TQ.

Got any times before and after the port job? Got any more pics?

I couldn't take any pics because my camera is a POS and wouldn't work. I really wish I had some to post. I am very proud of the job I did on it, and it looked better than any I have seen posted. I don't have any actual times yet, but it is showing an increase of between 8-10mph on my Gtech, so I am very hopeful that the track will show the same. Keep in mind that this was only one of the things I did that contributed to the increase though, I also ported the heads, installed larger valves, hooker long tube headers, and Hotcam. I am still running the stock runners so the engine looks stock, although it's polished. I really like the slow @ss TPI complex people have and want to surprise them with one.

I may eventually go with the SLP runners and siamese them, but I think the money would be better spent on a Stealth Ram for max power.

If you have any questions about my setup or porting your lower E-mail me or PM me and I'll help as much as I can.

Later,
Charlie

I have a modified tpi setup on my car. I am switching to HSR. It is for sale right now on ebay. I bought SLP runners and they fit perfectly with no flash or anything! I also had them ported along with my intake and plenum to match my 1000cfm BBK TB. I dont know why anyone has problems with SLP. The problem with the whole setup is that the intake chokes out potential hp even after it was ported. Couldnt get anything over 4500rpm with it.

I realize you have an air hungry big cube engine, but I think a lot of the lack of high end you have is do to your long runner length. In siamese porting the lower, you can effectively shorten the runner length by creating a second plenum in the base. I am only running stock cubic inches, but it spins happily to 6500rpm with STOCK runners. I also have no loss of torque and actually picked some up IMO.
