cam for stock 350 tpi
I'm probably gonna pick up an L98 longblock. It's stock with rebuilt stock heads. I was wondering what the best cam would be to use with the stock valvetrain. I was thinking maybe the LT1 cam. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Stock valvetrain? You can upgrade to a good spring and MUCH lighter retainers for under $100 so I wouldn't worry about that much. I am running comp 981 springs ($55 from Scoggin Dickey ) and some LT1 retainers ($13.50 on Ebay) Then you will be good for .500" lift.

The LT1 cam is practically the same as a L98 cam and not worth the effot. Post some more about your setup and I'm sure some folks will offer advice on a cam.

If you siamese the base a Hotcam with your stock rockers will work good. I'm running one now and really like it.

I'm gonna run the ZZ4 cam with my L98. I've heard from other members that it will work good with the stock prom and is quite an improvement over the stock cam. You will have to upgrade the springs and check the valve retainer to guide clearance though since the exhaust lift is .510.

Well, I might get an engine without a cam, it's a stock L98. So I'd have to put one in anyways. I just want to get my car running first and money is an issue.

Oh, so you're lacking a cam altogether. I thought you were wanting to upgrade from your stock cam. Hell, if you want a stock L98 cam, just post a wanted ad in the classifieds here. There's probably several guys that'd just make you pay the shipping on it and give you the cam for free.

Don't get a stock L98 cam!! A camshaft is not expensive anyway - get a better one than stock and you'll thank yourself for the improved powerband
I would agree with the hotcam suggestion - but only if you are willing to get the base siamesed. If not, then I would call compcams and see what they have to say about a cam for a bone stock L98.
