LT4 hotcam for 305TPI?

I've got a 91z28 that Im doing some work on, the motor will be pulled out of it temporarily while the bodywork and paint is getting completed, I was thinking of throwing in a hotcam into the 305 motor. It's already got ported plenum, runners, no EGR/AIR, burnt prom, hooker mid length headers with no cat and 3" exhaust, and 3.73 gears. would this be a good cam for the motor or should i look for something else? the car is a strictly street car, all my racing and track duty is done with the other car.

I personally think that cam is a little too big for a 305. I personally want to find something between that, and the LT4 standard cam for my 350.

LT1 and LT4 Standard cams are close to the same size.

LT4 HOT cam is massive though.

evidently none of these guys have had this cam in a 305 it is not MASSIVE,it has almost the same specs as the SLP cams for the same engines, since you have a stick it will greatly improve the power greatly,i had a 700r4/2500 with 3.45s,it ran very hard no times from track but i was able to beat quite a few stangs!this statement was not to offend anyone that answered this post but to let you know that experience is more valuable.

The lt1 cam is a nice upgrade for a 305 TBI, but for your TPI it wont do much and wouldn't be worth the time and effort to install. The hot cam may be a bit much. I would look at a 2032 that would be a nice cam for your combo.

oh come on now, dont be saying that, I just put a LT1 cam in my car and added the 1.6 rockers too.......havent cranked it up yet but there are plenty of people making good power with an LT1 in a TPI 305 car...atleast Ive read some posts that they are...

look at the TPI 305 5 speeds, they make 25 more HP with the cam they have and an LT1 is bigger...even bigger with 1.6's

Going back to the original question:

The LT4 Hot cam has markedly more duration which would cause you to lose low rpm and torque. The higher gears will help out though. It is ECM friendly if you have a burned prom. The lift is not too aggressive though. It is a good deal since you can get it for soo cheap. So, versus another cam that would cost you 100-150 $ more, and not be a whole lot different, it would save you money to go with the LT4 Hot cam. If you go to archives you will find people that swear by and have an extra under their bed.

:werd: you will be satisfied with the hott cam,it will give you optimized performance if you have a 2500 stall or a manual trans its a strong pulling cam profile.....
