Cant get new motor to run right
Cant get new motor to run right
Please help me come up with some new ideas. I have my new motor in my 88 IROC. Its a .040 over 350 with slp headers, comp cams extreme energy cam(designed for tpi)ported L98 heads, plus the usual tricks and freebies. Car will start and drive but falls on its face over 3000 rpm. Car kind of stubles a bit when cold but will drive okay when warmed up as long as you just slowly cruise. Smells pretty rich out the tailpipes. The car sat for 3 and a half years while waiting for funds and time to do the new motor. I changed the fuel filter but dont have a fuel pressure gauge. Car really doesnt drive like it did when the fuel pump went out. Do you think there is some crap clogging the sock on the fuel pump or there are deposits on the injectors or can anyone give me any other ideas. I wish I had thought to drain the fuel before it sat but thats hindsight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, change your GAS. 3.5 years!!!!! Get that **** outa that tank...
BTW, what does "comp cams extreme energy cam(designed for tpi)" that mean???? Give the specs.
Did you do any Prom work or buy one of those snake oil EPROMs???
If you don't mind dropping the fuel tank, it might be a good idea to make sure there are no obstuctions, but its not my first choice for kicks on a Saturday afternoon!! And you could pull your injectors off and send them out to be cleaned and flow balanced, not a bad idea if they are old as well...Fuel can cause parts to stick after a while...

Hard to say anything about the fuel without a pressure gauge, but that is definity a possiblity. I'd say a good tuning would probably help it out.
What cam is this specifically? grind number?

I want to know more about that cam too. It almost sounds like it is going to be pretty nasty. If you can find the cam card, post all the info or get the CC part #.
Good to get all that old gas out, fresh gas is definately needed after all that time. Try to get a fuel pressure guage on it if you can.

It will need a custom tune for sure!
Oh, also, hold down the alt key and type 049 until you get your keyboard fixed. 1 <like that
