newbie superram install problem help!!!

Hi guys, My buddy and I are trying to install the superram intake...We just bolt the runners and re-adjust the roller rockers and the valve covers (stock center bolts) just won't go back!!! I searched for the SUPERRAM install tips before asking you this and there is no mention about the valve covers clearance. Could anyone help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Thanks in advance,

Pat

O.K.! I tried to perform several search and I now know that I am not the only one to have this problem. But their covers were the taller one's and mines are the stock height (Proform with the red bowtie used on the ZZ4 crate engine) and I tried to slam it in but it won't!?! I knew this intake was kind a hard to install but worthed, but I never tought it would be that complicated... And I am just at the beginning.

If you have any tricks, don't be shy! It seems that the car won't start tomorrow as I was dreaming.

See ya!

You are installing a SuperRam on a ZZ4???

Do you have a chip burned for this?

I have a ZZ4 with 24# injectors, stock plenum, SuperRam base and SLP runners.

I am considering getting the SuperRam upper and getting rid of the stock plenum and SLP runners... let me know how that works out for you. What kind of chip are you running now and with what injectors?

P.S. --> Sorry I can't help with your question.

I had to machine my stock covers to get them back on with roller rockers. The area I had to machine was the top of the valve cover rails around each set of intake tubes. I had to machine 1/8" to 1/4" off of the edge of the cover to allow the cover to slide on far enough to clear the roller rockers. The gaskets still sealed on the valve cover edge and the head, so it did not leak oil, but the gaskets are exposed and you can see them.

Do you have headers? If so, try removing the ufo's (those ufo shaped pods on top of the header for the A.I.R. system). I don't remember what stock exhaust manifolds look like, but it might work on them too. It is an absolute pain, but they will fit. I have 1.6rr and they do fit. Sometimes it I get the angle just right and they go right in, while other times they can take me 5 minutes to install. Good luck.

Hey,

I finally managed to put back the driver side valve cover... I didn't grind it but forced it with a rubber hammer!

I just received my exhaust system (SLP single 3 inch) back from the ceramic coating shop!!! So I installed it and had a break from this Superram intake! Tomorrow, I will try to finish the other side and then, the plenum. I know that many of you had to drill something to ease the plenum installation. I am trying to figure it out, and I am confused

If any of you could give me the easiest/safest tips on that, I would appreciate.

L98IROCZ89, my engine is not a ZZ4. Only the valve covers (chromed, finned with the red bow tie). My previous setup was with the ZZ4 camshaft, Edelbrock base, Ported L98 heads, SLP runners, 24 Lbs, 52mm T.B., 1 5/8 Mac headers etc. Stock chip!!!
In year 01, I changed my heads to Edelbrock 6085, SLP 1 3/4 headers with an SLP single cat 3 inch catback and upgraded gear from 3:42 to 3:73. Was running 13.07@112mph.

Bjankuski, did you have major problems installing the plenum??? Who did burnt your chip? I am about to order it from FASTCHIP.COM. Is it as good as SLP claims??

Thanks in advance,

Pat 91Z28SS

Slow91camaro,

I forgot to tell you, my SLP headders had AIR tubes before but I cut them and weld it to an OE look. So there is no interference with them at all... It is between the runners and the valve covers. If we had non-centerbolts rocker arms, I am sure it would be much easier. It would give us the option to slide it on!

Since this intake is worthed, I will be patient and then post my dyno numbers.

I bought a 2500 torque stall alomg with my 3:73. Will that be enought??

Sorry 91z28ss, I guess I never checked back in on this thread after I posted. As far as the converter goes, if your on slicks I'm sure it will be a lot better than stock and still be very streetable. I have a 2800 stall converter and kind of wished I'd gone with a 3200. My previous 2100 stall gave me at best low 1.9 60's, but my vigilante 2800 has given me consistent high 1.7's. I know some of the improvement is from the more expensive and smaller "vigilante" converter but some of it also has to do with launching higher in the power band. If your making a lot of power and trying to launch on street tires on the other hand extra stall will just make you burn out more. Sorry again for the late reply.

Jon

I ran my 350 with TF heads LT4 cam and superram. Used stock injectors and stock converter. It ran the best on the stock chip. i had a custom Ed Write one and it was horrible. But your running SD so it may be differant. I also had to machine the bottom of my valve covers a tad to get them to fit

The stock valve covers will go on if you trim specific ribs inside the valve cover. I used a dremel tool to cut out certain steel ribs on the inside cover. Just do some test fittings, it will work.

I used my trimmed valve covers on SLP headers with the air tubes. And with roller rockers as you have.
