Black Cylinder Canister On Drivers Side
hey guys, what does that black canister on the drivers side in the front of the engine compartment do?? it has like a few vaccum lines running to it, and it has a 2 wire plug on it too.....i talked to a mechanic in my town and he said i can just rip it off...what do i do with all the wires when i rip it off? just trace them back and delete them or what? i was looking at, it kind of looks important for some reason, but he said its just emissions or something.....what the hell is it??

Well, its the charcoal canister and it has to do with emissions I believe. Exactly how it works, I have never checked into it.
A have an '87, thats whats on my drivers side somewhat behind the headlights.

ITs the charcoal emissions canister and the (2) wires hook up to the purge valve.
(Someone correct me if i am wrong)
There are 4 lines going to your fuel pump.
#1) Pressure line to fuel rails
#2) Vent line to directional vent ending behind back seat (exterior)
#3) Fuel pressure return line from fuel rails
*For you*
#4) The number four line is the vent line going to the charcoal emissions canister. The line runs to the purge valve on top of the canistor. When the computer opens the purge valve it lets the vaccum line from the throttle body pull the vapors from the charcoal canistor.
It rid of mine when deleted the EGR system. You will need to cap one of the vaccum ports on the throttle body and the vent line running to the gas tank. I removed the purge valve off the canister and left it pluged up just so i dont have any problems (ecm) wise, even if there isnt any.

Just kidding. If you live in an emission test state- DON'T TAKE IT OFF!! It is an evaporator. If you do take it off- DON'T LOSE IT OR BREAK IT!! Unless you like spendimg money on emission parts.
Hope that helps!

just trace the vacuum lines back and delete them, or if they are spliced into something thats still in use just cap them...then just wrap and stuff the wires somewhere...thats what i'm gonna be doing...
