What All Sensors on TPI????

i think it would be a good idea to purchase new sensors when i swap in the 383 but i need to make sure i have all my bases covered......what are all the different sensors on the tpi (speed density) engine?

coolant temp sensor
knock sensor
iac
tps
......

what else am i missing???

In addition to your list, just taking a shot from memory here...

I'd use the sensors you have. Most are easy enough to change on the engine if they are messed up.

If you are really set on changing them you can send your old ones to me.

There are several coolant temp sensors. There is also a EGR temp sensor.

Not on a speed density harness, only one coolant temp sensor.

The other ones you're thinking of are a fan switch and a gauge sending unit, not sensors.

They are sensors, just they don't report back to the ECM.

ok so i shouldnt change the sensors? fine by me i just figured it would be a good idea since im swapping engines.

well next does anyone want to chime in with all the locations of each sensor?
i know the temp gauge sensor is on my driver side, the oxygen sensor is in my collecor, and the tps (and iac ontroller) are on my tb...
where is the knock sensor, iat, map, oil press, and egr temp sensors located?

I 'd usually post a smarty-pants response pointing you to the nearest book store or www.helminc.com but today I'll hold off.

Let me go get my manual and transcribe it for you. Wait right there.

WOW! thanks

in that case, just about every question someone has on this site can and should be found in a damn book. for one, my haynes manual isnt too clear on things, second if someone knew offhand where the tpi sensors were it would be much easier on everyone if they could take the 5 minutes to list them than me running into a bookstore.

honestly, if you dont want to help then please dont reply

Actually one is a thematic switch and the other is a thermal resistor.... :P

On the heads, front of the intake, on the trottle body and on the back side of the intake.

All temp. sensors and temp. sending units are "thermal resistors" Kat.

CamarosRUS.....the Forum Search is by far the quickest and easiest way to find the sensor locations. You don't have to wait on someone else to feel like typing it out, you don't have to listen to Kevin's smartass comments, and you usually get three or four versions of the answer from different sources so you KNOW it's right. It would be much easier on everyone if you'd take the time to . I found them all in less than 3 minutes.

HalfInch.....A sensor by popular terminology is a device that reports information to the ECM. The fan switch doesn't sense anything, it just turns current flow on and off. Go into a parts store and buy a "coolant temp sensor" and see if your gauge will work with it.

Kevin....wait right there? You're worse than me on my worst day.

It's all in fun!

I have to be polite and professional every weekday, even in the face of supreme stupidity...I need the occasional outlet.

So you don't think it is a sensor? Regardless of the electronic parts inside it or what they do? Do you know how a thermal resistor works? You can explain that too.

I'll play.

Give me an acurate definition of a sensor in your own words

Calm down, look up the terms "switch" and "sensor" in the current SAE J-spec, and it'll make more sense.

Here's a quick starter:

A switch opens and closes a circuit when actuated.

A sensor varies resistance across a circuit.
