MSD Pro Billet Dist. I have had one since they came out and luv it. Except for replacin the ign mod that was a pita. But it was almost 10 years old and the wires were brittle. BUT still the MSD hands down, well worth the $$$$

I think your car uses EST so you need a distributor that will work with EST if you want it to be drop in bolt on. A re-man OEM replacement can be had for $110 from Autozone or $160 from Checkers. Summit sells a "Summit Brand" distributor blueprinted up to 6500 rpm for $199. This is the route I would go if needed to upgrade to a performance distributor. Mallory also makes a 80 series that will work, but its expensive. Up in that price range you can also get a DUI distributor, and then there is the MSD route. For my minorly modded IROC (just boltons) the stock distributor should be fine, just using an upgraded coil and stuff.
Sucks that you replaced the Ignition Module and it still didnt work. I'm actually in the same situation right now with my IROC. New distributors will come with another Ignition Module so both of us have effectively wasted our money. But I'm lucky that I was able to find a fairly new distributor used from a friend for cheaper.

I have seen many Accel and MSD distributors die for no reason whatsoever. Do yourself a favor, buy a stock replacement distributor. This is from experience and I know many other extremely experienced thirdgen guys (all with 400+ cubic inch motors) that will tell you the same thing. We have tested the aftermarket distributors and they just are not as reliable as a stock replacement. Sad but true.

A D.U.I street/strip unit is the only way to go...you won't need an extra ignition box crap because they have enough spark to light up a block. Each unit is hand built to your specs and you have a choice of red, black, blue or clear cap. I'm running a clear-capped one on my motor now...had it custom curved and I run no spark box junk and that thing fires my motor with spark to spare!

Engine size doesn't mean brain size. I'm not putting you guys down, I'm sure you know your stuff but that's not much of a compelling argument.
I'd bet Accel and MSD distributors can't be worse than $110 reman's from Autozone if that's what you mean by stock replacement. If you meant the real stuff from GM brand new then I'd say you're probably right, that's the way to go if you have the money.

Doesnt Proform sell one for $100 or something? Anyway, I have the MSD pro billet one and I have had nothing but bad luck with it. it is a great dizzy and all but I think Ijust got a bad apple out of the bunch. MSD has a message board over on thier site and you can get some great feedback from others who use this dizzy.

oh I am not saying that Proform is better then MSD or vise versa. I was just simply stating that I had bad luck with the MSD dizzy. MSD has fixed it for me and I would not hesitate to buy another one in future. My vote is for a MSD dizzy. My entire ignition system consist of MSD products.

no the dist. would not cause those problems in 99.99% of the time. You have a different problem elsewhere in your car that is causing that. Those symtoms can be from a lot of things and pin pointing the cause of the problem may take a bit of looking around. Either do a search for rich or hard start probmes or start a new thread in the Tech boards and someone can help you there.
