ok now im stumped

Ok my car never ran good since i got it from the previous owner..couldnt idle, smoked, yatta yatta. Anyway, i rebuilt the engine and reused the cam and whatnot and i also replaced most of the sensors and aslo got a tuned custom chip from pcmforless.com. The car deff starts up better now and can idle with no assistance from me on the gas like it used to. But then ill put it into gear and itll stall. Also when i try to start the car after driving it for awhile, it has trouble starting? It had most of these problems before but I thought it was because it needed a tune. Im thinking its the iac...b.c of the stalling at idle going into gear and the trouble with a "warm" startup...any ideas?

mail-order chips never seem to work right. Also, you didn't happen to mic that cam while you had it out did you? If someone put anything of a decent cam in, possibly previous owner, a chip not tuned for it will suck...

Is your car SD or MAF?

wait, I just saw the 92 part...should be SD, now you really need to make sure the chip is right...

i went to alvin at pcmforless.com and gave him a sheet on the specs of the car...including the part number and all the specs on the cam.

just seems wierd that itll fire right up if its started cold but when its warm...it has trouble?

I seriously doubt that "Alvin" had all the data he needed to get the program right the first time around (particularly with a non-stock cam). I've personally been lucky once or twice with sending out S/D PROMs for basically stock engines with a few modifications and had them work well (reportedly). The S/D systems are not as forgiving.

A few more IAC steps when cold, a higher cold target idle, and a little work on the stall saver IAC control might solve your cold start and operation problem, but that doesn't mean it's going to be an ideal tune for your installation. Nothing against "Alvin" and his efforts, or company, but burning without all the data and feedback is really tricky.

your right thats true...ill prob data log the motor and send him that.

anyway i got a code 22 and thats the only code the motor throws. So is my tps busted or could it be something else?

and also..are our gas caps vented?..i shut the car off and it was hissing like crazy?

Code 22 low TPS volts, data log the voltage and make sure it reads .54 volts at idle and that you can manually move the TPS and watch your data readings move. do a seach for TPS adjustments/replacement.

I think when TPS volts are to low and the car is closed loop it will stall out.

One more thing try popping in your stock chip when diagnosing problems. Thats what i do normally it kinda rules out any other end user errors.

shouldn't cause drive issues on a older model car( it will fail emissions). but if it was me I'd put a new cap on. advance auto parts

ok cool...now onto that tps thing

Is there a test for it which tests resistance on it?...i dont have jumper cables to test the voltage...but me and my dad were testing the resistance on it and that was going up and down..top and middle pin would cause the resistance to go up as we headed for wot...middle and bottom would cause the resistance to go down as we headed for wot...can i use any of this data to determine anything?

yeah dude it's easy, i jut did mine the other day along with IAC. I had to do a search for the steps on this site. I think what you are donig will work, but you want do it correctlly. Sounds like it might just be outta wack. if there is resistance readings per your movment of the tps it might be just in need of that ajustment. Do a search here for TPS adjustment. I was able to do my adjustment via the datalogger but i still needed to go throw the correct steps. I also had to replace IAC because it sucked. Did you replace your IAC? if you did you gotta go through the correct steps on recalibartnig it too.
