pcv sucking oil
i pulled it a couple of days ago and noticed a pool of oil sitting in the intake. Now i know the car needs the system.. is there anyway i can keep oil from getting in there?..i dont want to run a breather bc of all the crap ive heard about doing that. Is there like a filter i can run between the valve and manifold..kinda like a inline fuel filter deal. Ive also heard of using a catch can..which i would also do as well..but i dont feel like buying one just yet unless i can do a cheaper fix
aren't you on a fresh motor? shouldn't be getting blow by...hum. Do your valve covers have baffles in them?
- anyhow, yes, you could put an in-line filter in the pcv/breather line, but that wouldn't solve the actual problem.

yea im freshly rebuilt...but my car is a piece of crap
i thought maybe b/c of the cam and the vacuum at idle being lower then normal might be causing the pcv to not work right or something.

This is pretty common. Why it's seemingly more noticeable to you now, I don't know. But guys have been putting filters in-line for a long time and it seems to keep the oil out of the intake, while still retaining proper PCV operation. I always wanted to do this, never got around to it. Now that I am getting a new motor built, I think I will give it a try.

well i never knew the motor before i rebuilt...i bought the car and rebuilt it right away...so this may have always been a problem.
Ran to walmart tn and bought a fram inline fuel filter...put it in my pcv line...i need to redo it though to make it look alittle better

That may not be the best course of action. An inline fuel filter is designed to catch small particles that could damage the injectors, inner workings of a carb and the motor. It's not designed to soak up excess oil. You need a catch can setup, that will catch the oil, not merely soak it up. This way you can empty it periodically. Do some searching, I know alot of LS1 guys do it.

I use an air compressor filter, about $12 each IIRC. It's like a T, but the bottom portion of the T is a plastic "bucket". It seems to work well enough. It's not overly large, but you can hook up a larger one if necessary.

Use a larger clear inline fuel filter to help remove the excess oil.
I have successfully used this trick on a few different vehicles, including a 1995 Eagle Talon Turbo AWD....and my Camaro.
You will not hurt anything and they are cheap to replace. Just make sure to get the clear kind so you know how full it is getting.

I kinda have the same problem on my new rebuilt engine only I have already blown out either ther oil pan gasket or the rear main seal. its leaking everywhere. I also push oil out ther dipstick to the point where it leaks down the tube and soaks into the plug wire and starts to smoke. I am running a full PCV system and it is new. I pull about 14psi of vaccum at idle. It really depressing to see a pool of oil under my car after I just spent almost 10K on my engine.,
BOTTLEDZr28 - it pushed the pan gasket and it's still pushing the dip stick out? wow, you've got issues.... somehow, someway you have crank case pressure building up.

the dipstick itself doesnt push out. just oil. It may be due to a loose fitting dipstick but to have that happen AND have a blown gasekt seems fishy. PLus the high oil pressure scares me.
