will removing EGR and smog make my tpi run lean?

I was told by putting a EGR block of plate on that my tpi and removing the smog pump my car will now run lean. I have a 305 MAF engine.

unless you reprogram the prom the car will not run right and you will have a check engine light all the time. You gain no performance by removing the EGR. The air pump you may gain slightly if removed.

EGR is good. It lowers the EGT during cruise (Part throttle).

EGR does exactly nothing for performance at WOT. It can hurt performance though when it becomes dirty/clogged and sticks open. This doesnt usually happen on a SBC but happens all the time on other cars I've had. As far as removing it on a MAF car, I've done that numerous times and never once have I seen a check engine light.

The time you would want to remove the EGR, and more importantly, remove it from the prom, is when you use an aftermarket intake, and/or cylinder head that does not have an EGR provision, or passage. The ECM will still continue to "look" for the signal. If you do not do this, a check engine light will result. I know this from my own experience with my S/D. Not sure about MAF, must be different as madmax has stated.

Remove the AIR, and you will run leaner than 14.7 (stoich).

Removing AIR will NOT make you lean (assuming you remove it and block the holes). AIR pumps air into the exhaust manifolds during cold startup/warmup, then pumps to the middle of the cat after closed loop is entered, then to atmosphere during WOT. It never pumps into the intake manifold (the only way it could affect AFR).
